Guest guest
Well I'll second that nomination that I be a nurse educator. Actually I have been thinking along those lines myself. I have looked into becoming a CDE but you have to have 1000 hours of documented diabetic teaching before you can even apply to take the certification test. So its kind of confusing. How can I get the hours needed to qualify to take the test if I am not currently a diabetic educator. I mean, of course I would get the books and study, but then would I be qualified to instruct a patient. I have been emailing one of the big dogs in the CDE world at MUSC asking just these type of questions. She has been very nice and wrote me back quite a few times. My dream job would be to work with panreatic patients teaching them about the disease and incorporate diabetic teaching as well. I could be a pancreatic nurse educator/liason. Now if I could just convince some one of that I would be sitting pretty. Fat chance tho. They will be doing the auto ict at MUSC some time in the near future. I have to figure out some kind of way to get my foot in the door at the DDC. My personal opinion is that any body who has been diagnosed with cp should have a glucometer and test themselves frequently. A fasting test, like first thing in the morning, would be preferrable. I woul dlove to meet you for lunch when you come to town next. I do have a problem with transportation tho. Alisons car needs some work done. Billy can fix it but it will take time and he is working 7 days a week so that we will have all the $$$ for the kids schools. I feel so guilty that I am not working and he is busting his behind. The guy aint getting no younger and I worry about him. WEll I digress, Alison has been driving my car to work. But that cant go on much longer. I told Billy that she will NOT be driving my car everyday when she goes back to school. That just wont work. Now look who is writing a long post...LOL. Talk soon, love Chrissy
