Guest guest
Heidi, You wrote, " I have read that if one uses one type of analgesic for their long acting medication, it's better to use a different type for their BT, and this I found to be true. " That is an excellent point. Because so many doctors prefer to write for oxy if they will write any narcotic, it often happens that people receive Oxycontin and oxycodone for BTP. It has been my experience as well that the BTP medication compliments the long acting medication if it is a different type of Opiod. Interestingly, at this time, LOL, I am taking Oxycontin 40mg for a long acting medication and Fentanyl (ACTIQ) 1600mcg for BTP. Actually, I do not need the full lozenge at 1600mcg, so I only use as much as needed to obtain relief. It is just simpler to keep that prescription, if you know what I mean. :-) Karyn E. , RN Executive Director, PAI Pancreatitis Association International
