Guest guest
Hi , I am new to PAI and I have read a few of your posts about becoming a Certified Diabetic Nurse Educator. It seems like a catch 22 regarding the number of hours required for certification, and how do you go about getting the required experience. It really peaked my curiosity so I started browsing I came across this at ncbde.org: After meeting the Credential requirement and before applying for the Certification Examination, all (A through C) of the following requirements must be met: A. A minimum of two years (to the day) of professional practice experience in diabetes self-management training. AND B. A minimum of 1,000 hours of diabetes self-management training experience. AND C. Current employment in a defined role as a diabetes educator a minimum of four hours per week, or its equivalent, at the time of application You have probably already have this information. I wonder what the boards definition of 'professional practice experience' is. I was curious to see what educational requirements employers were looking for a diabetic educator, so I did a " Hot Jobs " search for " diabetic educator " (I didn't limit my results to any particular city or state) The results were about 50/50 on places who required certification and those who did not. I am not sure of how much of a nursing shortage there is in your area, but it seems to me now would be an ideal time to search. I live in land and the nursing shortage is tremendous, because of lack of nurses alot of times the criteria to be hired are frequently relaxed. Perhaps that will make it easier for you to find your dream job Toni
