Guest guest
My 5 year old autistic boy used to have a tremendous problem with being constipated (hard chemically smelling stools), but in the last year with this diet, his stools are soft and " normal " looking. HOWEVER, he refused to go to the bathroom without help and now cannot go poo- poo unless I give him suppositories or baby enemas EVERY time! What have I done? If I hold off and wait, he will not go for 5 days and everything is worse! Am I doing him more harm than good? I have been giving him suppositories at the same time every evening and he goes with sadness and we do this routine every day! Any suggestions? The stool looks great, but I can't get it into his brain that he needs to push it out every day. I feel so bad if I have made him addicted to this and he ends up 18 years old with someone having to give him a suppository daily. Please please please...any advice??? Guest guest
I had this problem with my daughter when she was 2...I started giving her prizes for pooing and things improved sooooo much. I'm sure you probably thought of this already, but maybe make it like a game-perhaps finding things your son loves(my daughter loves collections of any kind and I got some plastic colored coins from staples and we taped them up like a rainbow on the wall every time she went-in addition to a small 99 cents store prize). I feel your pain... susie hansen Not constipated, but holds it in!! What do I do??? Help!! Any suggestions??? Guest guest
This little boy is non verbal and doesn't get excited about any kind of toy or reinforcement, really...so difficult...he just gets better when I let him off the potty. His teachers are taking him every 1/2 hour right now for 6 minutes at a time in hopes to habit train him, but he has NEVER gone #2 for them. I just put him on every night at the same time, always ending up with suppositories... > > I had this problem with my daughter when she was 2...I started giving > her prizes for pooing and things improved sooooo much. I just put him on every night at the same > time, always ending up with suppositories... >> Have you tried the constipation protocol. If not that may help you get him going on his own eventually and off the enemas. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation ..htm http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation _continued.htm If you can't get them to work go to http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ and then go to the " Knowledge base " then go to " A to F " and then go to " Constipation " . You should also have a look at " Constipation - continued. " Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
