While my comments are general, I was sure that they do not apply to ALL people ALL of the time. There are always exceptions, such as you and Mark. When I was speaking about people responding from THEM and not of the OTHER, that is a difficult aesthetic principle in philosophy that took over 900 pages for Sartre to describe and present. I am not ready to go into the por sui and en sui of existential philosophy if it takes that much to do so. To try to break it down into a simple thing, what happens with people is that they only respond to external stimuli if it gets " in the way " of what they perceive as reality of conceptual reality. They only chime in if they do not challenge our own being. Therefore, people generally respond to external stimuli from a point of self-perception rather then actual empathy or agreed upon perceptual reality. This is where I was coming from.
