Guest guest
Cincy, I live in Corydon, Indiana. My Gi I use to see was Raja Kaikaus, MD at Midwest Gastro at Jewish. He specialized in ERCP therapy. I was referred to Dr. Vitale who is a Oncology surgeon that specializes in the pancreas. He decided to do a surgery that cut the nerves to my pancreas. Since then I have been pain free since recently which Ibuprofen takes care of. Before surgery I was on Oxycontin 80mg twice a day so the surgery has been amazing. I have my life back. I just have to be careful with heavy lifting. My pain doctor (whom I loved) was Reasor, MD with Metro pain Assoc. in Louisville. He is actually located in the medical building I work at Suburan Hospital in Louisville. I never had a problem with getting my pain meds. One thing though is that they are really strict in regards of taking your meds correctly. I have not had the Whipple yet but Dr. Vitale said I will definitely have to have this done. It is only a matter of time. He would like to wait until I am at least 40 because he said I would become a brittle diabetic. I am 37 now. I hope this info helps please e-mail me any time. Guest guest
Hi Patty, I guess I got some of the post confused. It is you that the surgeon said would be a brittle diabetic if you had the whipple. That does seem like an odd thing to say about the whipple unless he had intended on doing a distal pancreatectomy at the same time leaving the body of your panc intact. I have seen some that were having that when I worked. Seems to me if one were to go through all that then might as well just have a total. Are you a diabetic now? Do you have a glucometer at home? When you have had labs drawn has you glucose level been elevated? I am just really curious why he would say that. He seems from all that you had said to be top notch. Sounds like the nerve block is still effective for you. I hope so. How do you feel? How is you son doing with his apprenticeship? I bet his graduation was such a wonderful day for you. Well sorry about my confusion, guess thats what I get for trying to do 10 things at one time.
