Guest guest
veggies are a HUGE no no with gastroparisis...pretty much everything is no protien, no veggies, no dairy..it's your basic clear liquid diet and like I said, mashed pototoes and only potaotes, dont add milk or butter. Once you have gastroparisis, I son;t think it goes it away, it's not like you take a pill and you are better, nope, you take a pill in hopes you can keep your food in your system long enough you get some nutrion....providing you don't have malabsorbtion issues...lol, nope, I can not take supplements, You can't take those with gastroparisis, they just lay there until you barf them up. You really don't absorb much anyway. You can't win for losing with gastro. it just flat out sucks. I hope you don't have it. I go to MN on the 22nd. I am thinking when I leave there my TP/ICT will be scheduled. Ann Marie said she is scheduling into Oct. So hopefully I get Oct. The sooner the better. How are you doing? I haven't heard from you in a while. I have missed you. Eat a peach for me, ok?-(((HUGS))) Kat
Guest guest
They put in an arterial line in the OR and a epidural. Now mine was not at MN so it is more then likely different. I kept those 2 lines in while I was in the ICU, 6 days in the ICU. Then I went to the floor with just a peripheral line. The only thing that was a real drag was the round the clock blood sugar checks as they have you on an insulin drip in the ICU. I had a problem when I was inthere, but most people are only inthe ICU for 2 days. When you are on the floor they will start the diabetic teaching so if you have a glucometer be sure to take it with you. I was alone and didn't even think about needing a glucometer. One of the residents went to the local CVS, got a receipt of the exact cost, brought it to me, I wrote a check for that amount and she went and made the purchase. Pretty nice woman and went well above and beyond in my book. Wow I bet your pretty excited huh. Its kind of like roller coaster scared, you want to do it but your nervous and scared. It is a big surgery tho so you need to be mentally prepared for that. Sutherland is phenominal tho and I am sure he will prepare you for everything. Guest guest
What's an arterial line??? That was SO cool of that doc to go to CVS for you! WOW! How extra nice. Yep, I am sure the finger pricks are going to get old fast. real fast, I am sure. I think MN keeps you in ICU for 6-7 days. I am diabetic now, bit not on insulin. I am not scared really , I am wondering about the recovery a lot and the trip home and post op care at home. It will be my biggest surg yet...and I hoping the LAST surg ever. I am not even excieted anymore. Just trying to stay focused. It's a lot to take in. It's a long way up there. Organ removal is never fun. There are always those unforseen things. I am not concerned about anything inpatient, only when I get home. What is normal, what signs to look for if things start to go bad....that kind of thing. I think I am in the 'mental preparation " stage right now. It's getting close, more real wrote:
