Guest guest
I am sick- I usually buy coconut water from Whole Foods- it has nothing in it but coconut water. Well, today, they only had a case that was mixed with pineapple juice; so I asked them if it had sugar or additives in it, to which they answered that it was just pineapple juice. So we're in the car- the kids want one- and I (stupidly) let them each drink one. When I get home and am unloading, I look at the label, and not only is there ascorbic acid, but there is EVAPORATED CANE JUICE! I swear, I was on the verge of tears after working so hard to keep things " legal " . I gave them a dose of GSE, and a tablespoon of coconut oil (to kill the little buggers that are probably celebrating as we speak), and will hold off giving them their yogurt and probiotics until tonight. My question is, has anyone else had this sort of screw up, and what happens when " illegal " stuff is eaten? Does it ruin all the work to date? Do we have to start again? Or do we just watch their symptoms and proceed as usual if everything looks good? My younger said to me " see mom, just like you always tell us, you should always read the labels!!! Watch the behaviors carefully and if it seems warranted, back off to more easily digested foods for a few days. I would be inclined to take the pineapple juice back to Whole Foods and return it. No need to make a fuss. Just tell them that you were incorrectly told that it did not contain added sugar, and it does. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
GSE is grapefruit seed extract; it has very strong antibacterial properties. However, you need to be cautious what one you buy; Nutribiotics is the only one that I know of that is only GSE; there are some other less quality ones that have a chemical preservative in them that also has antibacterial properties, but obviously that is not what we want. Coconut oil is anti-viral and anti-yeast, in addition to being super good for you. There is alot of info at the Weston Price website (www.westonaprice.org)- like the GSE, it is important to get a good one. We use Wilderness Family Naturals, but there are other good ones that I am sure this group could recommend. We use it both as a supplement and to cook with. So my thought in using both of these was to kill any opportunistic bacteria/yeast that was excited at the prospect of evap cane juice... Guest guest
Hi Tracey, <<I am sick- I usually buy coconut water from Whole Foods- it has nothing in it but coconut > water.>> Sorry to hear that you are sick. Water from green coconuts is not SCD legal. I have had other people tel me offlist that they have been using this. Green coconuts aren't ripe and the water and/or flesh from them can slowly make SCDers sick since it can feed the nasties. <<Well, today, they only had a case that was mixed with pineapple juice; so I asked > them if it had sugar or additives in it, to which they answered that it was just pineapple > juice. > > So we're in the car- the kids want one- and I (stupidly) let them each drink one. I like to be proactive though and find a day (or more) of intro will help to flush that stuff out of the body faster. <<My younger said to me " see mom, just like you always tell us, you should always read the labels!!! " ->> Yes, even with foods that are normally okay the labels should still be checked because companies often decide to " fiddle around " with their ingredients to sell more product.
