Guest guest
My son has LNH of the illeum and none of the medicines have helped. They all make it worse. I don't know what diet to try. I need advice. As far as probiotics why can't some kids tolerate bifidus bacterium? Why is the only probiotic acidolphilus reccomended? I read it somewhere I think on Elaine's site but can't find it now. So anyway my son is GF/CF but it is not helping. So does this seem like the diet place for him to start? Guest guest
Welcome to the group dalywanda, <<My son has LNH of the illeum and none of the medicines have helped. > They all make it worse. I don't know what diet to try. I need advice.> As far as probiotics why can't some kids tolerate bifidus bacterium? >> The characteristics of bifidum bacteria(Bifidobacteria etc..) change when people are doing the SCD. For others with a strong healthy microflora it may not be a problem, but once on the diet and limiting certain foods the natural competitors for bifidum are gone(or reduced) and SCDers have an overgrowth. Any overgrowth is not good, so we strongly recommend avoiding any species of Bifidum bacteria when doing SCD. Many SCDers have had flares with them some have been quite serious. <<Why is the only probiotic acidolphilus reccomended? I read it > somewhere I think on Elaine's site but can't find it now.>> You probably read it at: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/probiotics1.html There is also some very important information about SCD and probiotics, Elaine's take on probiotics etc.. at this link. Fermented foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, nut milk yogurt can also supply good bacteria and the yogurt contain 'protected' bacteria that can travel farther in the digestive tract. Some of these good bacteria are L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, L. casei (which will work with the S. boulardii to do even more healing), L. acidophilus and L. plantarum. <<So anyway> my son is GF/CF but it is not helping.
