Die off and constipation questions

Hi all,

my 13 year old daughter (Asperger's syndrome) is on day 4 of the SCD

diet. Phase one foods, chicken soup etc. this weekend.

She never has had a diarrhea problem, but rather has a constipation

problem.

I asked her if anything is different. She was vague. Talking seems

to stress her out even more than usual (a good sign of die off, I

hope????)

She said something about green floaty poop, that it was a little bit

different but she couldn't say how.

Since she's 13, I don't really have access to her poop, if you know

what I mean. Not like a small child.

She also mentioned gas and rumblies in her stomach/bowels, flatulence

as being new.

I''ve been reading and re-reading the web site voraciously, and there

is little information about how to tell if she can tolerate a food

with the constipation problem as opposed to diarrhea.

She's pooping about every other day.

Our yogurt maker and progurt are on order. I plan on phasing in the

goat milk yogurt slowly.

She seems zoned out, and had trouble focusing on school work this

morning, especially the parts the involved communication with me.

Now she's hiding in her room and being alone.

Are we on the right track?

Yes, this is a possible die off sign.

Green stool is definitely a die off sign.

<< She also mentioned gas and rumblies in her stomach/bowels,

Which foods is she eating exactly? Fats & oils? Fruits and vegg?

etc..

That's good, it is important to start small : 1/8-1/4 tsp.

Zoning out, lethargy are symptoms of die off.

Hi Sheila,

You asked what foods she's eating...

well, let me think. It's been eggs, ripe banana, chicken and carrot

soup (I followed the instructions for pureeing the carrots, etc. It

had garlic, onion, and celery chuncks cooked in for flavor, that she

picked out), hamburger patties, homemade apple sauce, homemade cooked

pears, zuchhini noodles without skin or seeds...that was intro.

Fats have been coconut oil, safflower oil, 1 portion of ghee (in the

zucchini),

I've used cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, salt, pepper, garlic in

cooking.

Yesterday we added some avocado and she did well on it. Next up to

try is pumpkin.

And so it goes. Today she's feeling hot on the inside with cold,

clammy skin on the outside and is definitely acting like she's not

feeling well.

I have very high hopes. I want my daughter back!

thanks so much for all your help.

If the stools continue to float you may want to cut back on some of

the fat/oils for a short while.

If she isn't used to eating all the fruits and veggies that may

contribute to the gassiness. If the gassiness doesn't reduce/stop

you may want to try removing onion and garlic totally (ie not cook

soup with them.)

This may be die off also - epsom salt baths may help with these

symptoms.
