Guest guest
Well, it all started with having a sub-total colectomy, no bag needed, then a week after this surgery, I had a bowel perforation, which the poison was well in my system. (a bag/pouch was put on me to save my life) I was on a life saving support for about 4-5 days. It was touch and go there, had no idea it was happening to me. Then after this surgery, I did state I had pain in my and ribs and stomach, but was told it was the pain of surgery, this was in May 05, now in Aug 2005, I am still having pain, and not bad, but enough to feel a problem is there. So far, I control my eating, and the blood work is not great for my pancreas. The docs. are hoping this is short- term and temporary and will go away. They believe that with the bowel perforation, the leakage seeped into my body, since my skin was about to explode, meaning I was so fat looking at the time of bowel perforation. I am normally a slender gal, and did loose weight due to the surgery. I was 105lbs, a hiker/female athlete, and now, 93lbs, and hardly any muscle tone, but slowly building me up again. It's not easy eating small portions of food, but so far I am allowed to eat, and no meds yet. The docs. say I don't need them yet. I handle pain well, perhaps well enough that it's not a big concern yet. I feel like my lungs do not have enough room to expand, and that my ribs are too small. Seems the only way I can explain how I feel. Hence the possible bruising of the pancreas when they had to do emergency procedures and surgery on a patient and none too gently either. I hope this goes away, and I can eat normal again, and be able to eat good meals again. I am ongoing treatment for Hypothyroism since dec.04, this is a family trait, but I am one of the few that are skinny with this problem, but in good health, until the emergency surgery. However, could this have been a problem to my pancreas and unknown, and the surgery brought it about? I need to know, since my docs. are not sure as of yet where I am at, with this new disease for me. I never had problems before this surgery with this kind of problem. Is it possible for me in my case, that I am just in need of healing and my pancreas was bruised that I am just short term and not chronic? Can I be just a short-term patient due to the poison infection that was in my body and the pancreas is still inflamed? I mean, I can be normal again, and not chronic, is this possible for me? I appreciate any advice and answers. thank you I wrote this in the guest book, didn't know if anyone answers questions there. I am concerned this disease will affect my ability to go hiking again. I have gone thru a dangerous major surgery and then to have a bowel perferate on me, and get back on my feet is enough, then to be told I have pancreatitis, is another thing. I wished I knew if I will heal, or will I feel like this all the time now. I am scrared and uncertain. I am working back to being a female athelete again. The bowel perferation took all I had, and I have another surgery coming up in Oct. for my reversal. Will having this pancreatitis affect this and my healing or it is possible due to my case I will be temporary short term? thanks Amber
Guest guest
Amber, I had a subtotal colectomy in 1993, and only suffered from CP in 1998, due to polyps blocking my pancreatic duct...I hope it is only from the bruising of the pancreas..many body organs don't like to be handled and will kick up a stink if done...I know my colon did after I had the subtotal.. Good luck with your reversal..did they have to make a j pouch? or still using the remainder of your large colon? Regards, Ward
Guest guest
Amber, I have 8 inches of my colon left. My 4 year old daughter will have to have all of hers removed and a j pouch in it's place when she turns 12 if she doesn't develop symptoms sooner. My niece goes through this in a couple of months...The second surgery is supposed to be the lesser of 2 evils..
