Guest guest
Hi my son has been SCD for 2 weeks and has been constipated for the past 4 days. Any suggestions? He is eating eggs, carrots, zuchini, green beans, spinach, cooked pear, cooked apple, banana, chicken, beef, lamb, grape juice - diluted. When should I start the yoghurt? He was GFCF for 4 years. Thanks. Pearl Son ASD aged 7 - SCD 2 weeks P.S. We live in Australia - any other Aussies doing the diet?
Guest guest
HI Pearl, We are Aussies doing this diet too. My 3 1/2 year old son is ASD and has been SCD for about 3 months now, with some amazing results (was GFCF for 1 year prior to that). Unfortunately I'm not much help with the constipation issue, our little guy generally struggles in that area too. Now and then it all starts working like clockwork, but then goes back to being a struggle for him. We have tried some of the constipation protocol - one nut muffin per day plus stewed prunes, but something is still not quite right. We are trying out enzymes at the mo and will see how that goes. Fingers crossed something works - the days his bowels work properly are brilliant and the days things are a bit slow, he reverts back to stimming a bit. Frustrating, especially when we see glimpses of how things could be! Still we persist - I'm sure that we'll work it out some time. Hope you figure out what is causing it in your son too. Nice to find another Aussie trying the diet - most people I talk to have never heard of it. We are in Adelaide, where are you? Cheers! Guest guest
Hi, Pearl, For constipation you might find an idea to help you here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/69536 Regarding yogurt--we usually say that if you have been CF up until now, you should wait to try it until about 3 or 4 months in so that you don't confuse early die-off with a reaction to yogurt. Some try it sooner and in that case, it's a good idea to try it cooked in something. That will kill the good bacteria so that you would know for sure that any reaction was to the dairy and not die off from the pro- biotic. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
>ps I mean to add that in the past we have given him raisins, dates prunes etc to help with alleviating constipation.I understand that these are very advanced foods but were wondering if they would be ok to use again so that we can start seeing the full benefit of SCD and then maybe do the intro diet again once he " s not so constipated. hope this makes sense majidha > Hi > Its been nearly 2 weeks of SCD for my son and I do think we would be > seeing better results if he wasnt so constipatied all the time.I am > hoping SCD will help address this problem to some extent as he is > currently on suppositories and strong laxatives(and has been for at > least 18 months).Unfortunately even when we do a bowel clear out ie > increasing the laxatives during school hols, weekends etc he quickly > becomes loaded again.I believe that this is what a lot of his > abdominal pain is down to and not just the Ileitis that he was > diagnosed with recently. > I am finding it difficult to find the fine line between keeping his > bowels clear and him being incontinent(this has happened on a couple > of occasions at school)and obviously was very distressing for my son. > I was wondering if it would be OK to try orange juice with prune juice > as recommended by Elaine for constipation, but to use on a daily basis > so early on with my son on the SCD or would appreciate any guidance on > how to prevent this problem from constantly reoccuring. > many thanks in advance > majidha hanif >
