Guest guest
I'm assuming my son is now experiencing the " 3 month flare " but wanted to check with the veterans to be sure. I'm still not clear on the 3 month flare meaning yeast flare or bacteria or both?? He's been SCD since June 23 so it is 3mths now. For at least 3 days he is having poops that have tiny brown spots that are very hard to wipe off. I guess this is what some may call grainy but it doesn't feel like sand they are just hard to get off. Please tell me, if this is yeast, does this mean it is ACTIVE alive yeast taking hold or does it mean it is dying since it's coming out?? Why is it so hard to wipe off? There is a lot of it too. We haven't had a formed poop in at least 2wks. Some days are extra bad poops and very stinky. I did the intro again for 2 days over the weekend but I don't know that it's helped. The only thing I gave him that was not intro was kept giving him the yogurt during that time. Should I redo the intro for 5 days again?? He didn't get formed poops after 2 days of intro. Can I continue the yogurt during the intro? Shouldn't 2 days be enough since he's been strict SCD for 3mths? I'm giving him very thick yogurt with more progurt starter than the recipe calls for AND it is fermented 1.5 days. Very nice and thick, he loves it. He also gets 4 acidophilis and 2 sac b. You'd think this would be enough. Thank you soooo much for your advice, Pam, mom of Dillon ASD 4yrs old SCD June 23, 2007
Guest guest
When you say your yogurt is fermented 1.5 days do you mean 36 hours? That is too long. Yogurt should be fermented 24-30 hours. It is not necessarily good to use more than the recommended amount of starter. The good bugs need space. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
It is 32-36 hrs. In the back of BTVC it mentions if the yogurt can go longer than 24hrs " that's all the better " but it never stated how long was too long (that I could find). Ugh! If 36hrs is too long what does that mean, that it's gone bad and should be thrown away? Also, do you know if the specks mean yeast is active or yeast is dying?? I'm not used to seeing the specks that are hard to wipe off. He didn't have the specks this morning but is still having the bad stools (mushy not liquid diarrhea). Having them early A.M. is never a good sign (I always though the yeast had gunk to feast on overnight and that caused the early A.M. diarrhea). BUT, he has been less stimmy all week AND is putting 2 words together as a sentence and that is new. Thanks again for your help, Pam > > When you say your yogurt is fermented 1.5 days do you mean 36 hours? > That is too long. Guest guest
After 30 hours the probiotic content of the yogurt dimishes significantly. You can use it, but you won't be getting the probiotic benefit. This information is on Elaine's website. Sounds like your son is making good progress, so this may just be die- off. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
