Guest guest
K, the pain management clinic is done by referral from your doctor and yes, it is a class but, you also get a three hour appointment with three doctors(neurologist/anethesiologist, psychologist and physical therapist) and after all of them speaking to you, then get together and set up a treatment plan, which does include pain medication). After that initial appointment, they meet with you periodically to make sure you are doing well and you are always allowed to meet with any of the three doctors for any problems and issues that crop up. It's a one day class (this is before the three hour appointment) with a questionairre that you fill out and that is reveiewed to weed out the druggies, etc. Then is a ten day (once a week) class, and the three hour appointment, but it is VERY helpful in discussing the types of pain managemt and ways to deal with chronic pain. It's a multidiscipline class with an nuerologist/anesthesiologist, psychologist and physical therapist. I highly recommend it. I don't know if the other service locations have as involved treatment plan, but I highly recommend the Oakland one. When I went through this, there was a three month waiting list and I don't know if there is still a waiting list or if they finally caught up (they were behind because they had lost one of their doctors, but I believe they hired a new one something in the past year or so).
