Guest guest
Welcome , You just put out the question and the answers will come.. also go to the patient manual and memorize it.. (hahah only kidding) Trudy Pre-op looking for contacts Hello,I am from Bay City, Michigan. I have been researching weight loss surgeries for the past 12 months and have decided that the MGB is the right one for me. I have been reading the postings here for several months now. You have all been so informative. It really has helped me make my decision. Effective January 1, 2001 I am changing my insurance carrier. Do I have to wait to submit my patient information form until then? Is the Psych evaluation a requirement or just recommended? I have so many questions. I've e-mailed Dr R 3x and his office once and have not heard from either yet. I would really like to hear from someone who has gone through the outpatient clinic. I also hear there are now 4 people from Bay City, Michigan who have had the MGB with Dr R. I really would like to hear from you too! Looking forward to hearing from anyone, pre-op and post-op. Guest guest
Hi Trudy, What do you know about the latest changes in the manual? Is the Psych eval. required or just recommended? Did you go through the outpatient? I'm just chomping at the bit to send in my patient info form but don't know if I should wait until my new ins co kicks in, what do you think? How strict is Dr R on family support? I have a brother and a sister that is dead set against this, but I also have a brother, his wife and my mother that are for it. Guest guest
, You've got plenty of support then, Sweetie, and if I were you I would start the process of getting the MGB. I wish I would have. It usually takes about 2 months start to dance date. So, it depends on how long you've got to wait on insurance. Also, you can always set the date for later, but you will be ready to go, when you are covered.. The psych eval. is now mandatory if you submit your application after Dec. 1st. (I'm guessing on this...help out there??) Good luck!! I'm only a 2 week post-op. I am sure you can get lots more help from post-ops with more experience under their belts.. Guest guest
: You only need to send in the family support letters from the family who is actually on your side. Don't worry about the others. A lot of people only sent in one family support letter. If you know the name and address of your new insurance carrier then you can go ahead and send in your patient information form to Dr. R. Hope this helps. Guest guest
: Send your packet in now so that you'll be ready when your new insurance goes into effect. That way you won't have to worry about the psych eval portion which begins December 1. Dr. R doesn't need your whole family to write. Just a few family members to show him that you have the support of your family and so that your family knows and understands the risks you are signing on for. He doesn't want anyone to go through this alone. Just get letters from your Mom, your brother and his wife and that is plenty. Best wishes to you. This is an exciting journey to a new life.
