I am not understanding this. My son is 9, has autistic symptoms,

seizures and allergies. Because we were convinced the seizures were

directly related to food, we limited his diet severely through trial

and error. This was his diet at the start of SCD: turkey, olive oil,

salmon, green beens and cauliflower. Yes, we were heartsick over this

diet. I have since introduced banana successfully into his diet.

This is my big question; Should I stop his regular foods and only do

the intro foods? But if I do that I feel like I will be introducing

many new foods into his diet and that might cause problems. Also he

is constipated. The electrolyte drink would also be adding new things

to his diet. He is going to the bathroom, but it is with great

difficulty.

Many thanks

Hi, jo,

We advise people to start with the intro diet because this is how

most people have the best results. We find that after a time of

healing people are able to tolerate more foods and foods that they

were not able to tolerate before. I can understand that you see the

intro as introducing too many new foods at one time. You have to do

what seems right to you as a parent. Some people just eliminate

illegals for a while (which you have already done). Some go back to

the intro later, and some do not. The ones who go back have better

results (generally). Maybe after you see your son being able to

tolerate a wider variety of foods, you will decide that you can go

back and do the intro.

As to the electrolyte drink, you don't have to do it. But except for

the honey which is added to make it more palatable, it is just water,

salt, and baking soda, things the body needs anyway.

Have you tried Epsom salt baths?

I have just started the diet myself, so my knowledge and experience is

limited-but I will share what I can. My daughter is also allergic to

many, many foods. When I did the intro she ate only lamb and carrot.

I have since added squash and a tiny bit of the scd goat yogurt-fruit

has never worked. Each time I try to add a food she seems to react, so

I have gone very slowly. My daughter has also suffered extreme

constipation, which has improved a bit, but still exists. Her behavior

and the neurological side affects that came with the food allergies

have pretty much disappeared. Many people on this list have suggested

that the constipation may be as a result of an overgrowth of yeast.

At the moment she seems to be having a bit of a yeast flare up-the

rashes and sleep issues have returned, albiet in a much milder form

than before the diet. From what I understand, being on the diet

longterm will eradicate her food allergies.

I feel what you are going through, feel free to email me offline for

moral support if you want. It is extremely tough....we need each other

here on this list!
