Guest guest
Having trouble with legal tomato juice. I bought Knudsen's Organic 100% Tomato No Sugar Added but it says it's made from " tomato concentrate " which as I understand *could* mean tomato paste and that *could* have sugar in it? I can't find anything else anywhere that doesn't list tomato paste or HFCS or sugar or some other illegal. At least I did manage to find the right pineapple and grape juices. BTW, is there any reason why commercially prepared apple cider wouldn't be safe other than the possibility of mis-labelling? Thanks!! Guest guest
's (the kind that is just tomato concentrate, ascorbic acid, and salt) is legal. Heinz, found in Canada, is legal. Elaine checked these out. Red Gold brand is not from concentrate and is just tomato juice and salt, so it is legal. It would be best if you got a letter (hand-written, company stationery) from Knudsen about their juice in order to be certain. mom to --12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi Michele, <<Having trouble with legal tomato juice. I bought Knudsen's Organic 100%> Tomato No Sugar Added but it says it's made from " tomato concentrate " which> as I understand *could* mean tomato paste and that *could* have sugar in it?>> From the BTVC website on tomato juice: " Elaine Writes " Tomato juice was never a problem and I doubt if the same procedures are followed with its canning as with the other tomato products. If I can depend on memory and years of cooking SCD™, Dr. Haas never cautioned us about tomato juice and I can remember using it from Day 1. I guess the only way to really check it out is to find someone who works in a cannery and get it first hand. " and from the Lyris archives, Elaine wrote: " I would go ahead and use the tomato juice made from concentrate. Somehow I have a feeling that is just fine. And furthermore, sometimes, I get Heinz made from concentrate - depends on the time of the year they can the tomato juice. " So your juice sounds fine. : ) <<I can't find anything else anywhere that doesn't list tomato paste or HFCS or sugar or some other illegal.>> If it lists tomato paste that would be illegal. <<At least I did manage to find the right pineapple and grape juices.>> : ) <<BTW, is there any reason why commercially prepared apple cider wouldn't be> safe other than the possibility of mis-labelling?>> Legal apple cider: " It is brown and not clear as apple juice is. It should be just straight pressed apples. It is usually pasteurized in order to kill bacteria. Cider should be diluted with water before drinking.
