Guest guest
We're 3 months SCD with our nearly 3 yr old ASD son. He's experienced a couple regression periods -- so bad that we almost thought of giving up on this last week. Thank goodness we realized it was a typical time for regression and we stuck with it. Are certain supplements harder on the gut while it's healing than others? Currently, we only have him on Spectrum Complete (4 capsules daily, divided does), calcium powder (2x/day), L-acidophilus (1/day) , and s. boullardii (about 1/4 a pill daily); these are all SCD legal. Our DAN wants us to add zinc and work our way up to 50 mg/day -- says we need to do this for several weeks before the measles titer can be run. We've had bad luck when introducing supplements in the past (Omega- 3 & Vit C), so we're somewhat hesitant to try anything new. He also wants us to move on to Co-Q10 and B6, but said to do zinc first. Thoughts? Resources on this? Thanks- Shari
Guest guest
Hi! i recently put a lot of time into supplements. Spectrum Complete has beta glucan which is a polysaccharide from cereal grains. If your child isnt also supplementing with an enzyme that contains beta glucanase, then this could be giving him issues. Spectrum complete would be ideal if not for the beta glucan. It seems to be an awesome product. Makes me mad they added the silly beta glucan. The only kirkman i found that would really fit SCD and a person with fenol, citrus and many other intolerances (my hubby) was DRN. It costs more, but it might be worth a shot. You could try by removing the spectrum complete for 4 days and see if you notice any difference. I think zinc is more critical than calcium. i havent noticed any side effects from zinc with us. we use Opti-Zinc 30 from douglas labs... it contains a type that is more expensive and harder to find: zinc monomethionine. what type of omega 3 did you try? seal oil is pricey but really really good stuff. When you start B6, be sure to get one that has P5P in it. I really think my husband notices the difference. Hope this helps some. You are very fortunate to have a doctor helping you through this! - scd since april 2007
