Guest guest
Hello everyone I just started school yesterday i can't believe that the summer is already over. My summer was short since having my surgery all i did was recover. I am doing pretty good except when i eat. Everytime after i eat i get an upset stomach. I am never looking forward to eating. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am taking 5 viokase tabs with meals. Before i was taking only 3 and i uped it because i thought that maybe i wasn't taking enough. I don't know what to do and i hate feeling so bad after eating it's not fun. Also, I had my surgery on June 10 and since then i have lost 25+ pounds. Did anyone that had this surgery lose this much weight? I just think that 25 lbs is a lot in just 2 months. I thought that after i started eating that i would start gaining weight or staying normal but it seems to be doing the opposite. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone. Sorry bout any mistakes i am in a hurry and i wanted to get this posted. Have to get back to my busy life. ERIN --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Stay connected, organized, and protected. Guest guest
, When I came home from the surgery I had lost about twenty-five pounds. I was barely 80#. After I came home it was hard to eat at first, and I would be full after just a few bites of food. I started drinking Boost to help get more calories quick. After about four months of the surgery I started to gain weight, and I gained it fast. I am up to 135# now. I started gaining the weight after going to the doctor and finding out that I had some bacteria in my stool that was treated with flagyl and starting bc pills. Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry your having such a bad time eating. Have you told the docs this? Also what meds beside viokase are you taking? Exactly what kind of upset stomach are you having? Is it acid reflux? Nausea? Cramping? Diahrrea? Constipation? Also returning to you academic life can be very exciting and stressful. Your bowels have been manipulated a lot with that surgery. Try taking in small frequent but healthy meals. Crystals idea about the boost is a good one. Take alittle bit in at a time and try to get as much nutritional bang from your buck that you can. I have lost and gained and lost and gained but still stay in and around the same weight. Even tho loosing another 20 pounds would be nice, although I am told by others not to. I had lost 10 poiunds and was told sternly dont do that so whenever I feel/felt it was too much to loose I would eat ice cream, its always puts it right back on. Are you taking any vitamins? You should, you need to be as structurally strong as possible to maintain the meat you have on your bones now. Get youself a good mutivitamin and take it with the meal and especially with your viokase. I take one everyday and sometimes I take it twice when I am feeling particularily weak. Even taking the man made enzymes we will still be unable to absorb everything we eat. Man just cant exactly replicate what the pancreas creates. That is why supplementing with vitamins and minerals is so important for anybody with panc insufficiency or those of us who no longer have a panc at all. I hope you feel better soon and please let me know if I can help with anything. Good luck with school. Hey whats you major anyway? Guest guest
, are you taking any pancreatic enzymes? That may be why you aren't gaining any of the weight back and why it's hurting when you eat. I know my pain levels rise after I eat if I forget my enzymes (Viokase 8). You might want to talk to your doctor about this and see what he/she thinks. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
