Hi Kat, thats what I had done, an organ sparing whipple called a

Beger. It was a little too late for me tho and didn't help much but it

had already been determined long before that I need to have the panc

completely removed. Before I even decided to go for the total with

auto islets I asked Dr. Cotton (one of the worlds most reknowned

panreatologist) to review my case. He said " take it out now; take it

out later; it doesn't matter it has to come out " . My docs opinion was

the sooner the better ( do believe I have already told that whole

nightmare of a story about how we came to do the Beger). Haveing the

head of my panc removed did not affect the outcome of the islet cell

transplant in the least. Ohh and I am so not a brittle diabetic!

It is big surgery and I never really recovered from it. It took less

time to get over the total. So do bear that in mind that the recovery

time could be up to 12 weeks. Please keep me posted on when you are

having this and who will be the surgeon and where too. If you ever

want to talk, I am here for yo.

Warmly,

(SC)
