Guest guest
Hi everyone this is my first post to this group and I am looking for some advice from you smart people. My daughter is 5 and she has ASD for over a year she has been GFCF and also soy free sugar free. We have seen changes but we feel that she could do better and so have come round to the idea of SCD.The major stumbling block to this is that Sophie is the Queen of Carbs!!!! She basically lives on rice bread rice pasta crisps etc you get the idea anyway wondering if anyone has some tips for how to start this diet. The other relevant thing is that Sophie does not have diarrhoea now that she is GFCF although I still feel that her gut could improve. Thankyou for reading this and all ideas tips gratefully received! Very best wishes Emma and Sophie London UK
Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Emma! Lots of children come to this diet from a diet high in starchy carbs. It can be done! Be sure you have read Breaking the Vicious Cycle and studied all the great advice on the www.pecanbread.com website. The archives of this list are also packed with information. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/messages I would be helpful to rid your home of all illegals (food not allowed on this diet) or at least have them in a locked cabinet. It is helpful if the whole family eats SCD foods. You may see loose stools and your daughter may seem to not feel well at the beginning. This is due to die-off of bad gut bugs. Your daughter may try to hold out for the old foods. We do find, however, that given time the kids do accept and enjoy the SCD foods and expand the kinds of foods they like to eat.
