Guest guest
Marilyn or anyone else who does this, What brand/kind of grinder do you use to grind your ground onion and garlic or any other dried foods into powder? I know some use little coffee grinders, but I haven't been pleased. I have a large grinder, but it does not really grind it fine enough. Bonita, I toss my dry onion or garlic in my 30 year old Oster blender. Put the lid on and hold it, then blend at the highest speed. Stop. Dump into a strainer and shake until all you have left are pieces too big to go through. Dump back into blender. Whirl again. Repeat. OR: Sift out as much powder as you can for onion powder, and use the smaller bits as dried minced onion or garlic. Saves anxiety.... — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks. Pretty close to what I do except I have burned up more blenders in my 17 years of marraige than you can imagine. I finally bought a really nice expensive one and a specialty kitchen place and burned it up in 2 weeks. I think I may just have to buy Walmart cheapies and replace them often. I was hoping you had a great secret. I was hoping you had a great secret. Bonita, Well, I have to admit that my 30 year old Oster is laboring under the last six years of SCD, and is due for an honorable retirement. I'm torn. Do I want a food processor? (I don't own one, so anyone who thinks you have to have one to do SCD is nuts!) Do I want a Vitamix? (Do I need something that powerful?) Do I want a fancy sausage and jerky extruder? Do I want....? Well, you get the picture. And Christmas is approaching fast so I better make sure SOMETHING is on my list! Not a lot of great secrets in my kitchen, I'm afraid. Just more of the same things the parents on this list exhibit every day: sheer stubbornness and dogged determination! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
