Guest guest
Hi everybody, has been on SCD for 4 months now and is doing really well. She's gaining weight again and her cognitive abilities are coming along too. However I still feel as though I'm really limited to the foods in the stage 1 category with her. My main concern is that all of the sudden she's started having very loose bowel movements again. Where a couple of months ago they were quite formed now they're loose and the main thing I notice is that they're very gritty. It looks sometimes like somebody has dumped sand in her nappy. I've not made any real changes to her diet so can't understand why this is happening. Its been like this now for the last 3 or 4 weeks. She's only having 1 bowel movement a day and is gaining weight so I know she's absorbing what she's eating. Whats going on here? Every time I try and introduce something new she starts getting loose BM's. They're pretty foul-smelling but they don't have that " fermented " smell so I'm not sure if this is a yeast issue. I'm about to have a faecal microbial analysis to see whats going on. Also whats the word on split peas?? I know they're on the legal list - I'd love to give them to as another " fillerupper " because at the moment the only really filling vegetable she eats is butternut pumpkin and its turned her skin yellow (not that i'm too worried about that but a bit more variety would be great for her). She eats bananas too along with eggs, meats, fish, pears, apples (sometimes), honey, avocadoes and tomatoes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Guest guest
Hi Sara, I am glad that your daughter is showing signs of cognitive gains. Did you introduce any new supplements? Is your daughter getting into illegal foods? The SCD goat yogurt should really help the tolerance for new foods. Start with only 1/8 of a teaspoon and drip it first for a day. Get more info inside the yogurt section of our website: http://www.pecanbread.com BTW, sandy stools are a sign of fat malabsorption. I have heard of other theories for sandy stools but the research indicates that the other theories are not correct. Mimi
Guest guest
Hi Sara, Please read this webpage: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/Improvethediet.htm It explains what could go wrong and how to improve your child's SCD results. It might be clostridia; the webpage gives some info about treating clostridia.. Mimi
Guest guest
Thanks Mimi, I'm assuming that by having a faecal microbial analysis done that it will show up Clostridia?? Or is this a separate test that needs to be done? Does the fact that she's putting on weight nicely rule out fat malabsorption as the culprit?? What do I do if this is whats happening? There's truly nothing that I have changed but there have been a few illegal " incidents " that occurred around the time the sandy poos started happening... But that was weeks and weeks ago! Would it have affected it this badly? Should I go intro again for the next couple of days? Has all my hard work been undone?? This is such an upsetting setback... I have S.boulaardis capsules at the moment - should I start giving them to her in case its clostridia? Or wait until I have more proof? The funny thing is her behaviour is just fantastic!! She's sleeping well, she's happy during the day and is learning things every day - it just doesn't seem to add up! > Hi Sara, > > Please read this webpage: > > http://www.pecanbread.com/new/Improvethediet.htm > > It explains what could go wrong and how to improve your child's SCD > results. Guest guest
Hi Sara, The fact that a few illegal " incidents " occurred around the time the sandy poos started happening gives us a good clue that this is a reaction to the illegal " incidents " . Some children have very long reactions to illegal foods. Yes, going back to the intro diet would be very helpful. S Boulardii would also be very helpful. I would open the capsules and spill the contents into a SCD legal juice or water. Keep us updated. Guest guest
Thanks I will go intro again for a couple of days and see if that changes things. It just seems strange because even before she started the diet and was consuming all kinds of illegals she never had poos like this! Its to the point now that she needs a bath ever time she has a bm! And its extraordinarily difficult to remove from her skin.... Anyway, will push on with intro and see what happens. Guest guest
To check for clostridium bacteria you can do a Urine Metabolic (MAP) from Genova Diagnostics. If you have elivated DHPPA which is a malapsorption marker then you have clostridium. I think it is a couple of hundred dollars to run the test but it will also show what nutrients you are missing and how your Krebs cycle works. (how you turn the food you eat into the energy your body/brain needs to run) It is an interesting test. Beth UC 28 years Re: SCD for 4 months and can't move forward...
