Guest guest
Yes, this is how I feel today. I had a horrible attack just a couple days ago and am getting over now. I think sometimes I am in denial since I have only had this for one year. Due to cystic fibrosis. I ate some sugar free candies the other day and kind of binged on sugar hard candies!!!. I then had a bad attack. Can you tell me if it is the sugar alcohols and the concentrated sugar in the candies that cause it? The GI guys and practitioners tell me that it is and I really must abstain from them. Is this so? Again I am still learning. In fact I think the hard way! Guest guest
Deb, It seems that it wasn't too long ago that you and I had that discussion about refined sugars, that they were bad for people with CP, and that even though we craved them, it was in the best interest of our health to stay away from them. I know it's hard to resist sometimes, but the lesson we learn from not resisting is a painful attack, and each time a person has a bad attack like that, they cause further damage to their pancreas. So it's better for our health in the long run to try as hard as we can to control the things we CAN control, because there are too many things that we CAN'T control that can mess us up. Giving in to temptation is something we all need to learn to avoid. It can be so hard, but it can be done. We've all learned that we have to change our eating habits, give up many food and treats that we love, and care for ourselves in a more attentive manner than we ever did before. It takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice and attention, but we will live longer as a result. The sugar alcohol in some of the sugar free products does seem to interact with many people with CP. If your doctors have advised you to stay away from those products containing sugar alcohol, then you'd best take their advice very seriously. It sounds like everything they've been telling you so far is accurate and worth paying attention to. They sound as though they really do care about what's happening with you and are trying to help you to understand the things you can do to help yourself adjust to all this strange new territory. Again, I hope this helps. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
You are spirit in the making. Yes, we did have this conversation and as my husband said to me you are so successful in many ways career, home, family but you make such poor choices since the pancreatitis. I think with all that I have had to accept with the cystic fibrosis over the years, one more co morbidity just took me over the edge. I have framed your post, no really and put it in my healthy living book that I keep for reference and motivation. Sometimes abstinence is the only way. Thank you.
