Guest guest
Just as an FYI, I came across this article in a magazine. Not a totally reliable publication, The AARP dated July/August 2005, but it is widespread media. So, from page 108, number 6: " Opioids: Despite their notoriety as drugs of abuse, opioids such as codeine are among the safest painkillers available. They come in a variety of strengths and in short and long lasting forms that can provide pain relief for periods of three hours to three days. They do not damage the kidneys, liver, or stomach and have few drug interactions. Opioids can cause nausea, constipation, and drowsiness or dizziness that increases the risk of falls. Adiction is extremely rare in those with no history of substance abuse, but long term use can create a physical dependence, so opioids must be stopped gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms. " Since so many on this board use opioids, and some have had problems with doctors/pharmsists, etc. I thought this information might be of interest.
