Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm behind in reading my emails so forgive me if my questions have already been answered. I am doing well with a basic diet: cashew muffins, eggs, occ cheddar cheese, butternut sq, carrots, spinach, swiss chard and ground beef/turkey & chicken/fish filets. 4 oz Prune juice and calc/mag 500 mg for the constipation and acidophilus/sboulardi from GI pro to balance the bugs. I am having less and less bleeding (days at a stretch!) and the D is still with me but mostly only 1-2x in the am (haven't figured out the right balance of juice/mag probably). i do drink coffee mostly in the am but if i drink it later for the caffeine (mom of 2 kids) I am playing with fire. I can say I'm actually happy with D as long as it doesn't have bleeding. My 2nd op GI consult in Boston said I didn't have Crohn's and he would reccomend moving to the next level of meds: immunomodulators which I am very concerned with (one being you need to be on 2 birth controls it's so bad for a baby). He also remarked that my pathology report on the last scope showed " acute " rather than " chronic " inflammation which can be suggestive of infection. I've been having low grade fevers and fatigue - what is the possible cause and remedy for this? I remember seeing something about epsom salts and charcoal but I can't remember now. Any comments on the infection stuff? Any suggestions? Decreased bleeding and D 1-3x per day and less consipation is quite an improvement but I would really like to heal further. Guest guest
Hi Liz, I am glad that you are seeing an improvement. You will see better results if you stop the cashew butter for several months. The yogurt is great if you can tolerate it. I am glad that you are using probiotics. >He also remarked that my pathology report on the last scope showed " acute " rather than > " chronic " inflammation which can be suggestive of infection. HTH, Mimi http://microbialinfluence.com/GI/bacteria.html " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli " http://www.ccfa.org/reuters/newecoli Novel Intestinal E. Coli Linked to Crohn's Disease NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Aug 21 -- A selective increase in a novel type of invasive Escherichia coli relative to depletion of Clostridial species appears to be involved in the etiology of Crohn's disease, according to a report in the July 12th issue of the ISME Journal: Multidisciplinary Journal of Microbial Ecology. In the study, Dr. W. Simpson, from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and colleagues used DNA analysis to compare the ileal microbial flora of patients with ileum-involved or colon-only Crohn's disease and of healthy subjects. Compared with the other groups, the ileum-involved Crohn's group showed an increase in E. coli species and decrease in Clostridiales. Moreover, the severity of the ileitis was directly related to the number of E. coli present. Lastly, only invasive species of E. coli were found in inflamed mucosa. Further analysis showed that the invasive E. coli exhibited novel phylogeny with characteristics similar to that of extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli and Enterobacteriaceae. " Our findings raise the possibility that a novel group of E. coli contains opportunistic pathogens that may be causally related to chronic intestinal inflammation in susceptible individuals, " Dr. Simpson said in a statement. " They suggest that an integrated approach that considers an individual's mucosa-associated flora in addition to disease phenotype and genotype may improve outcome. Guest guest
Hi Mimi: Thanks! I have more questions below: Posted by: " pecan post " pecanpost@... Mon Oct 1, 2007 9:24 pm (PST) Hi Liz, I am glad that you are seeing an improvement. You will see better results if you stop the cashew butter for several months. The yogurt is great if you can tolerate it. I am glad that you are using probiotics. >>I am taking 2 acidophilus and S boulardi each am - would I continue to take these and start the 1/4 tsp? What is toleration? No increased D? or would increased B happen instead of D possbly? Most digestive problems are a result of a bacterial infection. Try reading the website and article listed below this email. >>Is this bacterial treated solely through SCD or is there a mainstream approach as well? Do you know if the chronic vs. acute inflammation means anything? THanks, Liz HTH, Mimi --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. Yahoo!
