Chicken and turkey questions

We were GF/CF and Feingold before starting the SCD. We were using

Honeysuckle White ground turkey as it was both GF/CF and Feingold

approved. However - I don't know if it's SCD legal as it contains

rosemary extract. I know spices are okay, but if it's an extract does

that make it illegal?

Also all the chicken I find in the stores these days is injected with

a solution. I contacted the manufacturer of the brand we were using

the most and was told that the solution included salt and bits of

chicken meat but nothing else added. If this is not legal, what

brands are legal or where do you find chicken that doesn't have

anything added to it?

Thanks,

Janelle

It depends what is in the extract and if that is the *only* other

ingredient.

It depends on where you live.

Hi Sheila,

I've emailed Cargill (the makers of Honeysuckle White turkey) back

regarding the rosemary extract so hopefully I'll know more soon about

that one.

Regarding finding the chicken or turkey parts without injected

solution: We live in the Lansing Michigan area. We've got Meijer's,

Krogers, Sam's Club, Shop-Rite, but no Whole Foods or Costco. Any

recommendations?

You want to look for the words " minimally processed " on the package.

That means no additives. The Perdue brand is common in the Midwest

but it has some lines with additives and some not, so check your

packages. Keep watching Meijer because they keep improving the

natural/organic lines. They already have acceptable natural beef and

lamb. I didn't see anything on their website about chicken, though.

You might check your health food store. I used to have to get my

chicken there. You probably know about the Whole Foods and Wild Oats

in Ann Arbor. Far, I know. Have you called MSU? Maybe they can

point you to a farmer. Also check here:
