Guest guest
I have some questions: My 13 y.o. AS daughter had a bad day yesterday, with much upset, more high-pitched speech, worse communication, head whacking, etc. She's been on the diet for 17 days. We started with tiny amounts of the yogurt after 10 days on the diet. Well, I asked her how much yogurt she took yesterday, and it was 1 TABLESPOON!!!! Too much too fast? I " m thinking yesterday was die off issues. I made her take an epsom salt bath before bed. Sometimes when she's having a bad day here eyes get puffy...especially the skin just under her eyes. Might this be a die- off thing? What is a proper rate of increase on the yogurt? Also: She has constipation, not diarrhea. How do I know if she is or isn't tolerating a new food? She's trying the prune juice. I guess I need to go and find the protocol with that and the orange juice... What brands of OJ are safe? Freshly squeezed Tropicana OK (not from concentrate)? I know that constipation can be a magnesium deficiency....how much of cal/mag would I supplement? Any particular brand OK? So, to sum up my list of questions: 1. Rate of increase for yogurt dosage? 2. How to tell if food is tolerated or not when there's no diarrhea in the picture? 3. Safe brand of OJ? 4. Whether Ca/Mag is recommended for constipation issues ? 5. Has anyone ever heard of puffy under-eyes? Thanks, Alana mom to dd13, AS, diet for 17 days
Guest guest
Hi Alana, <<My 13 y.o. We started with tiny amounts of> the yogurt after 10 days on the diet. Well, I asked her how much > yogurt she took yesterday, and it was 1 TABLESPOON!!!! Too much too > fast? I " m thinking yesterday was die off issues. I made her take an > epsom salt bath before bed. > 1. Rate of increase for yogurt dosage? Start with 1/8 tsp. If this causes problems try dripping the yogurt and then retry with 1/8 tsp again or less (this will be more concentrated). If your child seems to do well double the yogurt amounts evry day or every second day. If your child has die off either stop the yogurt, reduce or maintain the same amount until die off symptoms start improving. When symptoms start to improve or are lessened to the point of being tolerable or treatable (activated charcoal or epsom salt baths) then double to 1/4 tsp - do this for a few days until it is tolerated daily. Then double again - continue like this. The maximum Elaine rec'd for children is 2 cups/day; 2-3 cups/day for adults. << Sometimes when she's having a bad day here eyes get > puffy...especially the skin just under her eyes. Might this be a die- off thing?>> This may be die off. <<She has constipation, not diarrhea. How do I know if she is or isn't > tolerating a new food?>> She may develop more symptoms - worsening constipation or diarrhea or she may have behavioural problems. << She's trying the prune juice. I guess I need > to go and find the protocol with that and the orange juice...>> The entire constipation protocol is at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation ..htm please also see http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation _continued.htm <<What brands of OJ are safe? Freshly squeezed Tropicana OK (not from concentrate)?>> Yes, the Tropicana not from concentrate. Don't use the Tropicana with additives (juice blends, omega 3's, Calcium added etc..) <<I know that constipation can be a magnesium deficiency....how much of > cal/mag would I supplement? Any particular brand OK?>> There are some supplements listed at http://pecanbread.com/new/Sup1.html If you start to supplement watch carefully because as the body heals absorption of minerals can improve rapidly and you don't want to take too much and throw them out of balance. > > Alana > mom to dd13, AS, diet for 17 days Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
