Guest guest
Hi all I've read in 'We Band of Mothers' about the question of giving yogurt to SCD new starters (after 6 months if casein has been a problem), but can't find out about when I can start giving butter to them. I have a list of replacements for butter, but wondered at what point I could start trying him with butter. (My boy reacts badly to casein - eg, parmesan in pesto sauce caused diarrhoea and smearing to return after months on GFCF so I am wary.) Guest guest
If you are not too afraid, you can try butter right away. Butter is mostly fat. The casein is minimal. Still and all, some do react, and your son seems quite sensitive. Ghee would be a safer choice. Ghee is just the fat part of the butter without the casein. It is also known as clarified butter. You can buy it in the health food store. I can find it at Kroger in some areas in the international foods aisle. To put on veggies, or spread on toast, I prefer the taste of homemade ghee. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi , You could start the yogurt sooner if you follow the Pecanbread protocol. The protocol for the yogurt in 'We Band of Mothers' is different than the protocol from Pecanbread. The protocol from Pecanbread makes it possible to introduce the yogurt much earlier than is recommended by 'We Band of Mothers'. The yogurt protocol from Pecanbread recommends the following: You start out with 1/8 of a teaspoon Drip the yogurt Use only goat yogurt The yogurt protocol from 'We Band of Mothers'recommends the following: You start out with 1/4 of a teaspoon No requirement for dripping the yogurt You use either cow or goat milk. You can use the list archives to find why using the Pecanbread protocol makes the yogurt more tolerable. You can start introducing the yogurt after a couple of months if you use the Pecanbread protocol.
