Guest guest
Hello, I'm breastfeeding my 17 month old son, who suffers from hypotonia, delayed milestones, and chronic constipation. I am starting both me and him on the SCD intro diet tomorrow (got my chicken soup simmering as I type). My question is: I am sypmptom free. How fanatically do I need to adhere to the diet if my son is still breastfeeding? He nurses about five times daily, and sporadically through the night. Will minor infractions on my part greatly affect him? For instance, do I need to proceed as slowly as listed in the intro plan with introduction of foods if I have no symptoms? Also, how can I tell if a food is well-tolerated if my son is only pooping once every seven to eight days? Thanks for wisdom, Mother to Sailor, 17 months

Will minor> infractions on my part greatly affect him?>> If you mean SCD illegals those types of infractions will very likely set back his healing with SCD; if you mean eating very advanced SCD legal foods it will depend on the food and how well you digest it. For example, if you eat cabbage or onions these foods may affect him through your breastmilk. <<For instance, do I need to proceed as slowly as listed in the intro > plan with introduction of foods if I have no symptoms?>> Since you are breastfeeding it would be a good idea to start with the intro to help get him established after the intro you should be able to add more vareity and be able to see how and which foods affect his symptoms. << Also, how can I tell if a food is well-tolerated if my son is only > pooping once every seven to eight days?>> If tolerated well his constipation should start improving. Foods that aren't tolerated will cause GI symptoms. Sheila, SCD Feb, 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
, I am currently breastfeeding my 17mo son, too! My son struggled with candida (yeast), constipation, & red circles under the eyes pretty much from birth. When he did go to the bathroom, he would strain painfully & then have a watery, loose bm. I don't know if you're giving your son anything already or if your situation is too much more complex, but after researching things at the Weston Price Foundation along with all that I've learned from DAN and SCD & so on, I decided to start giving him 1/4 tsp Carlson's cod liver oil & the powder from a probiotic capsule mixed into about a tsp of pear juice in the am & pm. I feed it to him from a spoon & he rarely fights me about it. He began going more & has been regular now - goes once or more per day - without straining for about 6 mos. He still reacts to what I eat (cranky & has trouble falling asleep plus the circles under his eyes get more colorful) so I still have to be careful and we're still fighting yeast, but that little change has been an enormous help for us. Hope it might be something good for you two, too! :-) ~Grace > > Hello, > > I'm breastfeeding my 17 month old son, who suffers from hypotonia, > delayed milestones, and chronic constipation.
