Guest guest
Hi, I was wondering two things: 1. My GI said that untreated inflammation can put you at higher risk for colon cancer (ie get on these cancer drugs asap) - what has anyone else heard from their MD about trying SCD with some symptoms and no meds? It's hard to advocate when the push is meds, meds, meds (I'm not anti med they just havent' worked for me and the side effects suck) 2. If I don't (God forbid) get the SCD diet perfect, can I still make improvements over time, albeit just slower than if I ate intro for a year? I would think the subtraction of starches and sugar and other crap would help this disease considerably. I dont' want to give up hope but I am struggling with the addition of foods... Thanks, Liz --------------------------------- Be a better Globetrotter. Get better travel answers from someone who knows. Yahoo! Answers - Check it out. Guest guest
Hi Liz, <<1. My GI said that untreated inflammation can put you at higher risk for colon cancer (ie get on these cancer drugs asap) - what has anyone else heard from their MD about trying SCD with some symptoms and no meds? It's hard to advocate when the push is meds, meds, meds (I'm not anti med they just havent' worked for me and the side effects suck)>> I think meds have their place. When necessary they can help. But sometimes they aren't needed and can be counterproductive. If SCD can reduce your inflammation on its ' own that is great, but if you *need* meds along with the diet to get the inflammation down I think it is most important to get well first. Once well, you can look at reducing or eliminating the meds. You also need to consider any side effects of the drugs when dtermining what to do. <<2. If I don't (God forbid) get the SCD diet perfect, can I still make improvements over time, albeit just slower than if I ate intro for a year?>> You shouldn't eat the intro for a year (5 days max). If you aren't able to have much variety, consider taking a multiviatmin and mineral. <<I would think the subtraction of starches and sugar and other crap would help this disease considerably. I dont' want to give up hope but I am struggling with the addition of foods...>> It may help a lot but you may need extra help from meds...what foods are you eating now? How long are you on the diet? What is your diagnosis? Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
I don't know what your condition is, but when my son had his UC unresponsive to meds, 20 mg of steroids for a 3 yr old, we started SCD and I BEGGED his doctor to let us reduce the prednisone to a dose that I knew would have less side effects since they weren't working anyway. He reluctantly agreed and we went down to 15 mg. 3 wks later he was symptom free and we weaned off the prednisone. HTH Robbie mom to , UC SCD 3 yrs another question Hi, I was wondering two things: 1.
