Guest guest
, GET ANOTHER GI! An ERCp with monometry will tell if there is anything wrong with the pancreas AND the monometry part will read the pressures in the oddi sphicter and if need be, can be cut to help with pain. GET ANOTHER GI!!! I see this as a good thing. SOD and pancreatitits are 2 hard to diagnose diseases but with the right diagnosis and treatment, you can live a good life. I have SOD and CP. Sandy in CA -------------- Original message -------------- Hello everyone, yes I am new here. Been looking up what I can have based on all my symptoms. Guest guest
Hi , I have SOD and CP and I totally agree with Sandy. GET A SECOND OPINION!!! Run away fast from your current GI doc and seek help from another. True, ERCP's have been known to cause acute pancreatitis (small percentage) but you do need to be diagnosed so you can get started on treatment that will help you. The ERCP with manometry (which measures the pressure) is the best tool for diagnosing SOD. I am also type III SOD and none of the blood work in the world will ever show type III. It took me 7 years to be diagnosed......believe me, I know exactly how you feel right now. I think I saw a total of 5 different GI docs. I was told IBS for a while, then fibromyalgia for a while then finally the ultimate..... " are you depressed?? " . I was totally at my wits end. I made an appt at the Mayo Clinic (13 hour drive) and it was the best thing I had ever done. Unfortunately having SOD for 7 years without being treated had damaged my pancreas so with the diagnosis of SOD also came the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis. Hope this helps! Guest guest
, Your doctor seems to be sending double messages. He tells you that he " thinks " that you have SOD, but doesn't want you to have an ERCP? And then says that there isn't a way to be sure? An ERCP with manometry can diagnose SOD, and it is the gold standard procedure done to do this very thing. They can also make necessary corrections to help the patient's SOD while they are doing the ERCP. I don't understand this GI of yours, and think that you need to get a second opinion, AND find a surgeon that is experienced at ERCP's so they can get in there and take a closer look. You didn't say where you live, but there are some excellent endoscopic surgeons at different hospitals across the country, and it would be in your best interests to go to one of these facilities to have your procedure done. Leave your GI at home, though, because he doesn't sound like he's aggressive enough, nor concerned enough, to care for you. If you tell us where your located, we may be able to make some recommendations through our database of knowledgable doctors. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
