Hi guys,

My 3 years old son,, is on the diet for 21 days and we are on

stage 3 of it. Reading the post of somebody else, i realize thta my

son might be having contipation. His poop is solid, one side is

smooth, the other has like like balls, it is round, mostly sized like

golf ball. is this a sign of constipation? i was just happy that he

didn't have diarrea anymore, i thouht we were doing great, but if this

poop isn't good, i'd like some advice from you. i read the BTVC about

constipation, should i do that prune juice and orange juice mix for

him? we give him juices amde with juicer( raw fruits, no seeds, no

peels)50% water, pan fried( chicken, lean pork, hamburger), he will

only eat broccoli, but i mix other and veggies in his juice. what AM i

doing wrong?

thank you all

Hi, ,

It sounds like you're doing things very right, basically. It is great

no longer has D. :)

You'll want to improve the poop just a bit because from the ball

shapes, we can see he's a bit constipated.

You need to try various things to soften up the poop just a bit. If

the constipation protocol softens it too much you can give less of the

prune/oj or you can try one of these other ideas:

--increase water intake

--increase fruits and veggies; I would try cooked pears or pearsauce

(baked pears are scrumtious)

--add some beet to your juice

--Elaine's electrolyte drink

hi julie (or anyone knowledgable about poop!),

do you mind me asking what the ideal poo should actually be like - shape /

colour / consistency??? do you have any links where i can read more about this?

i know my daughters poos are much improved but i am sure they are not how they

should be... they are sometimes a very light (kind of mustard color) and they

seem either a little hard or too soft... but she is pooing once or twice

everyday - most days it is as soon as she wakes up - so she is really regular

unlike before scd!

Does he have a bowel movement each day? How many bm's/day?

Does he only pass a small amount ecah time?

Is the stool very hard and dry?

It sounds as if it might be pretty good and definitely an improvement

over the diarrhea.

You may not need the constipation protocol, but you could try the nut

flours to see if he is ready for them. Start with a small amount the

first time.

It sounds as if you are on the right track :)

Hi, Roweena,

Here is a link that describes normal bms.

http://ibdcrohns.about.com/od/dailylife/a/normalbm.htm

In addition, I just want to say that although some people are worried

about poop color (and sometimes they should be) I have read and

observed that if one eats less red meat, the poops will be lighter. I

see the lighter color in 's poops if we have chicken or lentil soup

or an egg meal and a significantly darker brown color if we have beef.

So I don't worry about the lighter color when I see it.

Hi Sheila and ,

I'm sorry for this late message. I Just want to thank you two for your

answers to my post. There is so much to learn about the SCD diet, so it is

always good if we, newbies, can count on the support and experience of other

parents like you.

Thank you very, very much!!!
