Guest guest
Today I sit here in amazement. kept the appt yesterday with Dr Lehman. When she got there, I guess he was upset. He told her that if he knew she was not any worse than she was he would not have seen her at all. And then he found out that she had seen Dr Sherman 5 years ago and said if he had known that she saw Sherman he would not have seen her at all. I talked to her husband and got all my information thru him. He did not know exactly what tests or what was done to . The only thing he as sure of is that was told she has Cystic Fribrosis and not just a carrier of the gene. was sent home with out any med changes. Nothing was done. And now she is back to the same place she was before and I know that she will never return to I U. Why would a dr treat her like this? She is in great pain, she needed to be throughly tested. Would it have hurt to at least kept her a couple of days and tested her out completely? I am full of questions today and dont have any answers or any way to get them. I am so sick of this medical profession. I have been thru so much with them all this summer that I dont have any faith in any of them now. So for it is back to living in constant pain, living and wanting to die and really having no life. So what did this all accomplish??? NOTHING!!! As you might tell, I am mad today and not sure how much more of this I can take. Jean
Guest guest
Hi Jean, I had a similar experience with Dr Lehman last December. I was hoping that my visit with him was unique because most to fhe members on this board who have seen him have had positive experiences. In fact, I have heard / read of many instances when he has been able to successfully treat the pain syndrome. However, what you have described is a very common attitude and reaction of physicians in a Medical School affiliated clinic. It is common in my clinic to resent patients who see different doctors within the same practice. While there are some valid reasons for this policy, there are also valid reasons for a patient to prefer to see another physician within the same clinic. Why he was angry with her because she wasn't " sick enough " to see him is unexplicable. Even if he thought that her symptoms didn't warrant an emergency visit to his clinic, the anger (if it even was appropriate) should have been directed to the referring physician NOT EVER the patient. We have that happen here.....when a referring physician will exagerate the patient's condition, but never, ever does the doctor take that out on the patient. This " abuse " of the system is discussed with the referring physician. The patient is at all times treated professionally and courteously. In my opinion, there is no excuse for what he did. As far as what do you do next......do you have any personal friends in the health care system? If so, It is time to pull strings. If not, can you have a heart to heart talk with a hospital patient advocate or representative at a hospital that you are most familiar with and have the most success with in the past? Sometimes, if you get one powerful person on your side, things can get done the way they should be. You and your daughter need an advocate at this point....someone who will smooth the way and do all the preliminary work for the doctor so he / she knows what your daughter has endured and what she needs now. I am also wondering if your insurance company can provide some kind of case manager nurse who can get things going in the right direction. I understand you complete distrust in the health care system. I am very much of the same mind. I am not sure how you get to the right place and people but I know that they are out there. Hopefully someone will have some better ideas than mine..some that will get you immediate results. laurie
