Guest guest
Hello, My 3 boys (5yo with autism and 3 yo twins with PDD-NOS) all have major gut/yeast/bacteria issues. We had been doing GFCF for about 1 1/2 years and then a few months ago moved on to a modified SCD. I know that they are still getting things that she should not be having. I decided to read the pecanbread site again and have decided that I need to do the intro diet and work slowly through the stages. After reading, I now have a lot of questions. 1. Probiotics? - It says that they should not be started until day 5. What if I am already giving probiotics? Should I stop and restart them after day 5? Also it says to use on 3 billion cfu's (giving it 2x/day). I have been using Custom Probiotics- L. Rhamnosus, L. Salivarius, B. Bifidium, B. Infantis (D-Lactate Free)- 250 billion cfu/gm. This is way more than Elaine recommended. Should I be using something different? I had heard though that Custom Probiotics are an excellent choice in probiotics. I am confused?!? 2. Supplements? My boys are all on a boatload of supplements. I know that some of them are not SCD legal. How crucial is it in the beginning to use legal supplements? Should I work on diet first and then slowly stop illegal supplements and introduce legal versions? 3. Meal Planning? Does anyone know where I can help with SCD meal planning? I hate to cook and have never done well in the kitchen. I am looking for ways to simplify the transition into SCD. I need someone to say, " ok, this is what you should feed your boys today for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, supper, snack. " I need this for everyday of the week. Do you find that you feed your kids the same thing everyday for each meal? When I first started SCD with the boys, I did a very short intro period and just jumped right into advanced foods that should not have been introduced so soon. I want this time to be different. I want to do the intro diet for at least 3-5 days and then slowly progress through the stages. My boys all have nasty BM's that are often loose, wet, foul-smelling and at times gritty. We need to heal their guts and I truly believe that their diet is the first step. It is just so difficult to remain consistent when they are in the care others throughout the day. Your feedback and answers to my questions are greatly appreciated! Thanks! Jen Mom to Zach (5-autism), Dylan & Drew (both 3-PDD)

Should I stop and > restart them after day 5?>> Elaine suggested doing the intro without probiotics (there are exceptions). If you kids really need it you could keep a L. acidophilus probiotic or S. boulardii (Other bacteria/yeast are not SCD legal in probiotic capsules/powders). Some don't notice a huge difference with probiotics if this is the case you should wait until after the intro. <<Also it says to use on 3 billion cfu's > (giving it 2x/day). This is way more than Elaine recommended. > Should I be using something different?>> Yes, these are illegal probiotic strains. The B. Bifidium, B. Infantis particularly are very bad for SCDers. It seems that they overgrow and have caused flares of bowel disease or increased behaviours when people do SCD. (In the abscence of their natural competitors they flourish with SCD legal foods and become one of the " bad guys " ). There are some legal probiotics listed at http://pecanbread.com/new/probiotics1.html <<2. Supplements? My boys are all on a boatload of supplements. I > know that some of them are not SCD legal. The supplement page may help with this http://pecanbread.com/new/Sup1.html <<3. Meal Planning? Does anyone know where I can help with SCD meal > planning? (Especially the intro because it is only a few foods)..There are meal plan suggestions as well as great recipes geared towards kids, including many dairy free recipes at http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#intro http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#beyond http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#menu Recipes: http://pecanbread.com/new/recipes1.html More cooking tips: http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#transition http://pecanbread.com/new/scdfoods1.html#tips <<...
