Guest guest
Hi everyone, It's me - Eileen from Clearwater MGB Hopeful. I have a question about Aetna Health Insurance. Open enrollment is available throughout Florida for small business owners (that's me) throughout the Tampa Bay area throughout the month of December. The effective date of coverage is February 1, 2001. Please forgive me but I know 0 about health insurance per say. I did purchase a plan through Alliance a few months ago but it doesn't cover any type of what they call morbid obesity surgery. I then applied to Florida BlueCross/Blue Shield who set out a paramedic to get a HE&UP, VS, Blood Work, Urine , Ht. AND - OH NO - WEIGHT. I guess you are all figuring what's coming next. Right on - The insurance broker called some weeks later ( I was looking in the mail box everyday hoping not to get a call but to receive a card) stating that he had bad news for me. I was denied because of my weight - 250 and my cholesterol 250. Isn't it crazy. Some numbers we want to be high - savings, stocks, bonds, mutual funds Etc-etc and some numbers we want to be low. Age, weight, cholesterol, triglycerides -waist, dress size etc, etc. HOW COME i'M ALWAYS on the wrong side of the numbers??????? If all of this was not so sad it would be funny!!!! Now my situation is this: I've applied for a loan and all those folks seem happy, optimistic and jolly. I met the very pretty thin real estate appraiser lady yesterday. She took pictures said that everything was wonderful. She seemed happy, optimistic and jolly. Now back to the loan sharks (oh excuse me) I mean the wonderful folks at the lending institution Last Friday I was told that I had been pre-approved and they did not see any problems with my getting the loan. Yesterday - the real estate lady told me that my property was lovely and assured me that she would give me an excellent recommendation. I'm not sure just who the folks are that will be getting the recommendation and that they would have it today 11-22-2000 before 4:00PM. It was her experience that I would be called as soon as they received her faxed report. Cell, pager, home, office and work phones have beco me very quiet.!!! Sorry this is so long. Am I becoming obsessed?? Next plan - I placed a call to the fell (health insurance broker) who sent me the Aetna(United Health) plan. Naturally he's away for the Thanksgiving holidays. I really took time to look over the application this afternoon. Even went to the Aetna Website. There were a lot of good things said about the insurance but be darned if I could find the exclusion page. GOLLY. MY question to you guys is --If I go ahead and a apply and receive this Aetna HMO (no paramedics, blood test, urinalysis VA, ht, wt etc I guess because it's a large group (instead of me alone on an individual-lone policy ) coverage at $265.00 per month then could my pip refer me to Dr. R in N.C. There's something I've heard about coverage only being within the framework of the network etc etc. Too much. I can see cl early now why Dr. R wants us MGB hopefuls to see a shrink before we are accepted for the dance. This fantastic process (loans, insurance, packets etc) is truly a barrel of fun.!! Then of course if all of this " presentation " fails who will go forward and carry our flag?? Shades of " Glory " . Did anyone see that civil war movie?? Can you see the shrink's face now as I waddle into his office carrying my black tutu and unlaced toe shoes. What will be his response when I tell him that I'm depressed because I was passed over for the part of the dying swan in Swan Lake at Dr. Rutledge's theater in Durham, NC. Do the police arrive with handcuffs for me at that time???? Seriousely, does anyone out there in MGB land want to touch this issue of mine. Please don't tell me to keep the Alliance insurance in effect because it just appears that hat I might be needing it. No - I'm not going to read the fine print regarding critia for admission to the local funny farm. *My computer just said Cut and Paste* Bye Bye In summation - could some learned soul please contact me if I wasn't deleted many paragraphs ago. Bottom Line -Should I get the Aetna Health Insurance. Thanks so much. for those of you who are still with me. If you are still awake and I get the loan - I know- I know where's your part of it.. Right. Hee hee I remain, Eileen from Clearwater, Fl MGB hopeful

Guest guest
Hi everyone!! My name is Lynnette and this is my first post. I have been reading all the posts that you have out here. I started my research in July 2000. My PCP was very supportive. Although he did refer me to someone here in Virginia. He performs the lap RNY. I am glad to hear that Aetna approves patients for WLS. I have severe asthma and denenerative joint disease. I am still waiting to hear from the insurance company. It is great to hear all the success stories and also good to hear of those that may have had some problems. I to get scared. This is a huge step to take. I am glad to have found this group. Best wishes to all, Lynnette in VA
