Guest guest
Hi All, I'm new to this and transitioning to SCD w/ my son (5yrs). Ok, here are my questions and thank you in advance for your responses. I love this group and all of hte support :-) 1. I think I missed the squash cookie recipie - could someone please send it to me? 2. What is clear honey? Clear like water or the regular kins thats amber but you can see thru - obviously not the opaque raw stuff. 3. Cannot seem to find legal bacon - can anyone give me a brand adn / or place to buy / order it? 4.We use Spry tooth gel as toothpaste (GFCF) but it's Xylitol based. I don't think that Xylitol is legal... Is it? If not, what do you use? Finally, THANK YOU to - a huge staple of my son's diet was mashed " tatoes " w/ egg yolks and spinach but, can no longer do the potatoes. Made w/ lima beans as suggested. This is a child who has seen Dr/ Krigsman, been put on Noecate and would thow up in the presence of food. He picked up his spoon and ate them without flinching! It's nothing short of a miracle for us! --------------------------------- Moody friends. Drama queens. Your life? Nope! - their life, your story. Play Sims Stories at Yahoo! Games. Guest guest
I can help with the bacon - Gwaltney's is sugar free and legal. If you're looking for natural, this isn't it, but it's legal - you can get at Super Wal-Mart... I haven't found a natural sugar free bacon. Guest guest
Hi , Here are some recipe posts by other list members: The Squash buttons recipe is as follows: 1 large baked acorn squash (about 1 1/2 to 2 cups) or you can use butternut squash also 2-3 eggs 2 tbls. honey Dash of cinnamon Blend in the blender until smooth, then spoon into mini muffin pan. Make sure the pan is well greased, and only fill about 1/2 full. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. You want them to be pulling away from the sides of the pan and look dry and browned around the edges. They will be delicate, so you will need to carefully remove them with a knife by cutting around the edges and carefully lifting them out. They make a good finger food and snack for school. Additional comment: I use coconut or grapeseed oil in my pans, then when they come out of the oven I loosen the sides of each button with a knife and then let them cool a little before trying to lift them out of the pan. Debbie Did you get the recipe a couple of weeks back for squash buttons by Debbie K. It does not use any nut flours and my boys just love it. One large acorn squash cooked 2 eggs 1 tbs honey a little cinnamon Blend in food processor and pour small amount 1-2 tsp in well greased mini muffin pan and bake on 300 degrees for 40 minutes Her explanation is better than mine, but that is the gist of it. I use muffin liners and they work just fine. Jenn & K asked: Just wondering if the recipe will work with pureed pear or apple? Debbie's answer: I did it with banana and they tasted really good, but they had a different texture than the squash buttons. I think probably any pureed fruit or vegetable might work with this recipe, but may be slightly different in texture based on the fruit or vegetable. If you use pear or apple, I would steam it and then drain it well on a dish towel to get as much water out as you can. Then, you could puree it with the eggs. You might want to use an extra egg just so it will hold together better. Just a thought. Let us know if it works. Debbie ============================ Another fruit button recipe This is my experience. I used the sneaky veggie pancake recipe from pecanbread.com. I used one cup of pureed fruit or veggie, 4 eggs, 1 tbs coconut oil, tsp vanilla and 1 tsp cinnamon and pureed together. Instead of cooking up like pancakes, I put it in the mini muffin tin and cook for the 40 minutes. Ours did come out like the squash buttons. Guest guest
Hi , Xylitol is not SCD legal. Sheila wrote this: There are no 100% SCD legal toothpastes. But, Elaine said that if your child will spit out the toothpaste and not swallow - to not worry about commercial toothpaste (but use only a small pea-sized amount). Here is a SCD legal toothpaste recipe that was posted a couple of years back (from tte): 6 tsp. baking soda 1/3 tsp. salt 4 tsp. glycerin 12-13 drops peppermint of wintergreen extract Just mix and store at room temperature. > >4.We use Spry tooth gel as toothpaste (GFCF) but it's Xylitol based. Guest guest
Hi , <<2. What is clear honey? Clear like water or the regular kins thats amber but you can see thru - obviously not the opaque raw stuff>> Clear honey means that the honey has been filtered to remove the pollen that may be irritating to the gut. The honey can be raw and clear or pasteurized and clear. It also must be pure, 100% honey. You have to be careful because sometimes other sweeteners are added to the honey.
