Guest guest
I see by the legal/illegal list that chestnuts are OK, but chestnut flour is illegal. My daughter is on SCD - but I am trying also to reduce oxalates and almond flour is high in oxalates - chestnut flour is low. Is there some special reason why chestnut flour is illegal. (raw/organic chestnut flour - only dehydrated while in the shell) Thank you, Pat
Guest guest
Hi Pat, Owens, the woman who is running the Low Oxalate Diet for ASD has stated many times on her list that the reason that many autistic children have high oxalate levels is due to a damaged GI system. SCD is a great way to heal the GI tract. Why not just heal the gut with SCD? The fruits and veggies that are eliminated by the Low Oxalate Diet contain very valuable nutrients. Before trying to lower the oxalate content of your child's diet, you should make sure that you are doing the SCD diet correctly. The web page below will help you improve the diet: http://www.pecanbread.com/new/Improvethediet.htm You should also seek SCD counseling. Several years ago, I used to do free SCD counseling (I no longer have the time to do that). I was able to improve the results of every child except one. There are SCD counselors who are more experienced than me who could give even better advice. They are listed on the www.pecanbread.com website. The supplements that are required for the Low Oxalate Diet are more expensive than SCD counseling. Have you made a thorough research on the side effects of the Low Oxalate Diet? Parent researcher Tamaro has stated that the Low Oxalate Diet can cause neurological damage. Have you read her paper? Parents should come to their own conclusions by getting together and doing their own research. A special Yahoo group was created for parents so that they can do the research together: SCDandLOD To subscribe to that group just send an empty email to: SCDandLOD-subscribe SCD is a fantastic diet; the fruits and veggies that are allowed are so nutricious. Do not modify it or combine with another diet before doing an investigation. My guess as to why chestnut flour is illegal might be due to the possibility that it was not prepared correctly.
