Guest guest
Debbie-Sure I rememeber you! I was talking about you to my nurses the other day! I told them about the lady who drank her pureed food. Amazing. I have horrible distention as well. I have a bad bowel, They used to say it was from that, then of course they realized I haven't the ability drain (panc and biliary) so some docs say it's from that...All I know is it hurts and I am sick of it! LOL My question to you is WHAT are you pureeing (sp?). Is not so much HOW you consume, but WHAT. For me, I avoid all protien, sugar, chocolate, cream, dairy, fat. I eat soft food. Like mashed pototoes (no butter, milk or salt) I eat rice, a fat free biscuit ( you get used to it). Sometimes I take Indian flat bread and top it with fat free cheese, pureed veggies, banana pepper rings and tiny shrimps and call it a pizza. I don't do that real often, obviously. I also drink lots of chicken broth. If you have any protien at all, I suggest it not be meat, try something easier like tuna, stay away from nuts (the fat). I never eat out. I eat only what I make that way I know exactly what's in there. I eat tiny tiny portions and stay well hydrated. I only drink bottled water (easier on the GI). I drink it at room temp. because my biliary hurts if it's cold. Hot Ginger tea is good for the GI, though, It's a taste you must aquire. (I think it's nasty) but it helps. I also eat Hunts fat free vanilla pudding (in the little cups). Skinny cow makes a good fat free " ice cream " treat. Braums makes a great sugar free, low fat sherbet (the red rasberry is best). Sometimes I put a banana and strawberries in a blender with a little bit of sherbet and have that for a meal. Grains are a HUGE no no (for me anyway). I totally avoid them. (much to my colon surgeon's dismay) I also have gastroparirs, so for me, no lettuce, baby spinach, or any kind of salad....sometimes I make a pasta salad, agian, no dressing of any kind. I use bow tie pasta (chilled), fat free feta cheese, banana pepper rings, a tiny bit of black olive and sometimes baby shrimps. I can't stress enough SMALL PORTIONS. Another you may consider (don't scream) is your mental state. I do yoga a lot. If I can't do a pose because of pain. I just sit in meditation and 'think myself well " . I know that sounds so incredible dumb, but it does work for me. I still get BBS (Big Belly Syndrome) -something my husband coined! LOL ....don't get me wrong, but it's not so big that people ask when I am due. I do wear low riding trousers and I do wear a sleep shirt ever chance I get. I have found that pressure (no matter how small) adds to the BBS. I never wear a bra. I wear camis with a built in shelf bra with a cardigan for work. Anything you do to help relieve pressure is a good thing. If you can exercise at all, do it. OK-That was probably my longest post ever! Sorry about that. I hope this helps you. I have honestly given you everything I have tried that has worked and not worked for me. I am anxious to see how my disention will be after my whipple. I am not so sure it's from any one health condition, but I think when I can drain and those ducts are removed, it's gotta cause some shrinkage...one would think. I will let you know on that! Do you have SOD???-Take Care Debbie, I do think about you a lot, you amaze me. - Kathleen
Guest guest
Kathleen, Oh thank you so much for keeping in touch. To have someone to relate such horrid symptoms to is a plus. Now, before I begin, let me say I am looking out my windows, i(I have a cedar chalet home with millions of windows) I am viewing a beautiful thicket of wooded area with lots of deer and their yearlings and this year births. The baby turkeys are out today but they are growing up. I have much to be thankful for and particularly e-mail friends like you. I know as the doctors tell me that my pancreatitis is due to CF but that mine is directly related to how I eat. The what you eat is right like you say. I am affected by most of all the foods you talk about. Particularly grains and sugar and I am not real good about eliminating these. So, I am using today as my day one to try and get back on track. I have had some pretty bad days over the past week. Of course I took six days off from my consulting nursing business and was sick the whole time. UGH! I tried to clean my basement out and it has a lot of mold which I am severely susceptible to and it put me into a bad CF attack of my lungs. My husband was so worried about me last night, he kept coming in the bedroom to check on me. He is the rock of my life. I miss so much being able to go to dinner with him. Although recently I have prepared my food and taken it with me. I am still dreaming about that lobster dinner my husband wants to buy me. I think I have such trouble in accepting this disease. I did the same thing with my CF when first diagnosed. But learned to live with it and do quite well, considering all the things I deal with. I just wish there was a day I could wake up and not have the pain and the bloat. You talk about wearing no bra, me too.. I can't stand the constricting feeling. Is this where your pain is? Mine starts on either side right or left upper quadrant and radiates to the back. It is about bra line and a little lower. Is this pretty indicative? I just need to connect sometimes with persons of the same situation to help me see how to deal with this. Do you also get al lot of indigestion and nausea? I do. It is a wonder that I eat at all but most of the time I am forcing myself. My prayers are to all for pain free days. Please keep in touch. I thank you for all your knowledge and your support.
