Guest guest
Hi, Alana, I don't have all your answers. If you try SCD, I would be careful at first to stay away from foods that are forbidden on your current diet. After a period of healing, you could cautiously try the honey, bananas, etc. I don't imagine that you will be able to really " pig out " on honey and bananas in your situation, but could probably do them in moderation, given time. My husband, who has type 2 diabetes, tried SCD for a while, but he went crazy with honey and it did not do good things with his blood sugar. I'd like to get him back on SCD if he could exercise more moderation, but .... SCD can help you get to your optimum weight, but only if you exercise moderation. Carol F would often caution the rest of us with stories of how, if she made too much yummy SCD treats, she would gain weight. I wouldn't start this right away, but after a while you can put cream in your coffee with lactese drops to consume the lactose. Full cream is mostly fat. I myself do mostly SCD, but not 100%. I am amazed at how I do not crave all the old foods. And I feel better (didn't know I had any issues!) This is a very satisfying diet (after an initial period of getting used to it.) mom to -12 SCD 4/23/
Guest guest
Alana, I have had Hypogycemia all my life. Both parents, all 5 uncles and 1 grandparent had/has diabetes. When I do SCD completely with my son, my hypoglycemia basically goes away. Now mine may not be as extreme as yours, I don't know. But, I agree with . I think your hypoglycemia will improve. However, we DO NOT have many snacks at all. We get very limited honey and fruit for snacks between each meal. We eat mostly veggies and meats. When I follow it completely, the carb cravings go away, my sugar gets better and I feel better. I think you will find things generally improve if you go total SCD, but nobody knows to what extent as we are all individuals. We also have nut allergies here. I understand, WHAT A DRAG! Bonita Contemplating the Diet for Myself Hello all, I could use some support/advice/encouragement. I totally KNOW what all of you all are going to say....he he he. So please bear with my processing here. I'm feeding my ASD daughter the SCD diet right now, so I " m half a step from it anyways. Currently I'm on a liberal version of Dr. St. Amand's hypoglycemia diet (see www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com if you are curious...). Anywhoo...my diagnosis: fibromyalgia and hypoglycemia. Another thing that has happened to me over the past couple of years...a year and a half ago, seemingly out of the clear blue, I had an anaphylactic reaction to peanuts. I used to eat peanuts almost every day, as part of my low-ish carb diet. I didn't stop breathing but the reactions WAS on the anaphylactic spectrum, and I went to the allergist and now I carry an epi-pen. Where did this allergy suddenly come from? I'm thinking something having to do with damaged gut, leaky etc? My allergist also told me to stay away from tree nuts, at least for three years. Lovely. Since then, I've also developed hives if I get any soy protein. Food allergies cropping up all over the place out of the clear blue.!????!!!!! Since I " m hypoglycemic, would I need to avoid the foods that are forbidden on my current diet, such as honey and bananas and dried fruit (once I work up to them), or do you think SCD will allow me to control my hypoglycemia with the full range of sugary foods? Currently I rely heavily on artificial sweeteners (like generic Crytal Lite, diet Pepsi, etc. ) and I KNOW they are bad for me. I also use stevia which is NOT SCD legal. Sometimes I wonder if that's what's damaged my gut....splenda and that chlorine molecule it has on it...I " m just wondering, that's all. Supposedly undigestible, but some people DO digest it... Will SCD help me loose weight? Coffee is legal, but not decaf?...does everyone drink it black or do people put yogurt in it? I may just try this diet. Wah. Perhaps I should use up the goodies I have in the house first...Wah. It would be hard. Would I be able to hold out hope of at least getting tree nuts back into my diet at some point? And yes, I crave carbs. Biscuits and spaghetti are my favorite foods ever even though I rarely indulge because of my hypoglycemia. So, I have many signs of needing and potentially benefiting from this diet, don't I? thanks, Alana Fibro dx 12-04, guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand, hypoglycemia, peanut and soy allergies, possible tree nut allergies mom to ASD daughter on SCD diet since 9-

Guest guest
Hi Alana, << fibromyalgia and hypoglycemia. Another > thing that has happened to me over the past couple of years...a year and a half ago, seemingly out of the clear blue, I had an > anaphylactic reaction to peanuts. I used to eat peanuts almost every > day, as part of my low-ish carb diet. I didn't stop breathing but > the reactions WAS on the anaphylactic spectrum, and I went to the > allergist and now I carry an epi-pen.>> <<Where did this allergy suddenly come from? I'm thinking something > having to do with damaged gut, leaky etc?>> That is what some believe. <<My allergist also told me to stay away from tree nuts, at least for > three years. Lovely.>> Did you test positive to tree nuts? Peanuts are a legume, not a tree nut. <<Since then, I've also developed hives if I get any soy protein.>> Soy protein is not legal on SCD, so that will help to avoid it. <<Food allergies cropping up all over the place out of the clear > blue.!????!!!!! > > Since I " m hypoglycemic, would I need to avoid the foods that are > forbidden on my current diet, such as honey and bananas and dried > fruit (once I work up to them), or do you think SCD will allow me to > control my hypoglycemia with the full range of sugary foods?>> If you eat a balance of foods , not loading up on legal carbs but also not just eating meats and proteins you may find that SCD will help. I was border line diabetic while pregnant, have a strong family history of diabetes and preSCD would experience extreme drops of blood sugar if I missed a meal or delayed them. Since SCD my blood sugars are good and my blood sugar doesn't do the " roller coaster " any longer. <<Currently I rely heavily on artificial sweeteners (like generic > Crytal Lite, diet Pepsi, etc. ) and I KNOW they are bad for me. I > also use stevia which is NOT SCD legal. Sometimes I wonder if > that's what's damaged my gut....splenda and that chlorine molecule it> has on it...I " m just wondering, that's all. Supposedly undigestible, > but some people DO digest it...>> It is indigestible some people just haven't exhibiting any effects yet. My best friend used to drink diet drinks like water in college - now she has IBS - there may be a connection. To sweeten drinks without honey you can use saccharine. Hermesetas sells saccharine under the name hermesetas. Using the search function, key word " saccharine " : If you click on http://www.hermesetas.com/ and click " products " and thenselect " USA " you will find a distributor in New York with contact numbers. They may be able to tell you if you can get it nearby or even ship directly to you. <<Will SCD help me loose weight?>> People on the diet find that their weight will go to their bodies' ideal. My husband and I were on the diet, I was underweight and he was a bit overweight. Once my bowels started to heal I started to put on weight and with him the weight just fell off. He dropped 40- 50 lbs in a few months. He didn't starve himself though he ate more food once he strated the diet than before - full breakfast, lunch supper and snacks . <<Coffee is legal, but not decaf?...does everyone drink it black or do > people put yogurt in it?>> Some drink it black, some add homemade nut milk, honey, saccharine etc.. <<Would I be able to hold out hope of at least getting tree nuts back > into my diet at some point?>> Some have reported that food allergies seem to fade and for some disappear. For true allergies I'd be very cautious. <<And yes, I crave carbs. Biscuits and spaghetti are my favorite foods > ever even though I rarely indulge because of my hypoglycemia. > Alana > Fibro dx 12-04, guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand, > hypoglycemia, peanut and soy allergies, possible tree nut allergies > mom to ASD daughter on SCD diet since 9-15>> You can make spaghetti with spaghetti squash and there is a great tomato suace recipe in BTVC.
