Cindy,

Many people have ERCP's and never have any problems with this

procedure afterwards. Those that do are already in the hospital and

can receive immediate resorative care that helps to minimize any

pancreatitis difficulties. Try to focus on the positive, and to not

let your fear about this procedure get in the way of getting a

definite diagnosis and finding out what has caused your pancreatitis.

Doctor's don't usually recommend this procedure unless they feel it's

necessary and that some relief for the patient can be achieved as a

result.

Although alcohol is one of the leading causes of pancreatitis, there

are other causes and whether it's one or the other it doesn't make any

difference in your future treatment and care. The main objective is

to determine what is the best treatment for the problem and help the

patient with the symptoms that develop as a result of the disease.

Don't beat yourself up guilt over your having consumed alcohol in the

past, many people have had alcohol sometime in the years before our

diagnoses', yet our diagnoses' have been for other causes as well;

either gallbladder problems, heriditary, autoimmune disease, reactions

from prescription medications or idiopathic. What matters most is

what you do now, not what you did then!

The only difference it would make at this point is if you were to

consume alcohol now that you have been diagnosed with pancreatitis.

That's where you would be making a serious mistake, because continued

use of alcohol could be fatal. Now that you know that, you shouldn't

have to concern yourself with it again.

You've probably read that specific quantities of beta carotene,

Vitamins C and E, Selenium and Methionine are all antioxidants that

are beneficial for pancreatitis. You can purchase the Antox tablets

directly from Pharmanord Labs in the UK that are already pre-mixed and

contain all these antioxidants in one dose. Or you can find them in

health food stores and some pharmacies in the US, and take each one

individually in the correct quantities. It's harder this way, and

means that you're taking more pills than you would be if you purchased

them from Pharmanord, but it can be done. The brand that I've always

used is the Solgar brand, as they are the purest, and contain no

fillers or additives, starch, yeast or food coloring. They are also

more expensive, because of the use of pure extracts. I've always had

more luck finding all the Solgar brands through a health food store,

or an online pharmacy.

If you have any more questions about the antioxidants, feel free to

contact me. I've been using them for 4-1/2 years now and feel that

they've really helped me considerably.

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
