Guest guest
Hi , Hi , I thought I'd put in my two cents worth. Our experience has been that the only fruit we've ever had problems with has been apples. (I guess we need to keep reminding ourselves to cut the peels off thickly enough to eliminate the pectin.) Our Gen has trouble with any more than one apple per day. Otherwise, fruit has been his favorite treat! (He's even requested a decorative fruit platter instead of an SCD birthday cake when birthday time came around.) With honey, we've had enough trouble that we went and found a nearby beekeeper who sends us a jar every so often. I suspect the large brand honey companies no longer know what goes into the honey they pack. (Most of it comes from abroad now, and so it makes it a lot more difficult for them to keep track of the various different pro- ducers, and quality. ) The bottom line for us has been that if something has gone wrong, it usually is because we've forgotten something in the protocol, and need to review the material. Vigilance! Starve those nasty gutbugs! -Allan.
Guest guest
Christy, remember that doing IgG food allergy test is going to show positive because she has digestion problems. I've included another post so you can read what Elaine had to say about it. Your best bet is to follow SCD fanatically and see how much improvement you'll get. Pearl __,_.Hi , Below are comments by Elaine about allergies. This does not apply to allergies that produce anaphylactic reactions. Testing for improvements to these type of reactions should be done in a doctor's office. Mimi --------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ \ ------------------------------------- If the allergy test stated " cow's milk " , then it would not apply to goat's milk. However, over the 45 years I have been involved with allergy testing, I have found it to be very, very inaccurate. I am not saying that one should ignore it all, but as a child remains on SCD, the allergies fade away. I remember case after case of people getting well on SCD and feeling that they wanted doctor supervision to give them support nonetheless. During the first few years, I recommended some holistic doctors who appeared to support my work. Invariably, the patient would call back in tears. Why! Because they were showing tremendous improvement on SCD and they were testing positive to all the foods they had been eating and upon which they were getting well. Elaine Gottschall .. ***************************************************** Just let me add my two cents. With all due credit to the allergists (they were the first in the medical profession to look at food as the culprit in so many disorders), they, for some reason (not scientific) decided that allergies are based on proteins (and parts of proteins like peptides). Therefore, all that emerged from them for the last 25 years had to fall into the gluten (protein) and casein (protein) categories. They stuck to their guns in spite of the growing body of evidence which showed us about autoimmunity and the role of bacteria in creating the autoimmune condition. And the role of feeding these bacteria and yeast on a surplus of carbohydrates in the incubation tank of the gut (the colon). But the whole world of gluten had taken on a life of its own! Again, those who wish to follow GF/CF and are finding relief, well, that speaks for itself. For those who need more, there is always SCD. Guest guest
This reply is a bit slow in comming but: When the allergy testing is done, a protein that somehow resembles a food is exposed to the blood. The blood reacts and the test is noted as positive. However, in a properly working gut, the blood should never see a protein that resembles a food; the blood should only see completely digested amino acids, carbs, glucose molecules, fatty acids, etc. So, that is why many autistic children have an improvement in their IgG testing once their gut has healed. The IgG testing is a good starting point, but hopefully many of the items on the list can be added back once the gut has healed. For example, my son tested positive for bananas. These were easily tolerated after a few weeks on SCD. I hope this helps.
