Guest guest
Deb, I agree that the bloating and distention can be very disturbing. I can't remember if you have shared that you have or have had a G-tube in your stomach? Other than antacids, enzymes, and select food choices, one other way that I have seen chronic distention and bloating managed is with a feeding tube. It isn't necessarily used as a route for feeding as much as a route to release built of gastric gases. When I worked in pediatrics we would vent the G-tubes after kids ate to minimize bloating. This certainly isn't a reason to get a tube, but this was just a side thought, I wanted to share. As a nurse, you probably knew this, but others on the board might not be aware that the tubes could be vented. Guest guest
Karyn, They did suggest a tube at UNC in North Carolina last summer. The other thing is the GI's in Pittsburgh, UPMC want to put an ileostomy in and bypass the colon. The megacolon is contributing mostly right now beside the CP. I have been so poor nutritionally that they do not want to do it until I get better. In addition, my GI CF doctor in town said that I would dehydrate too much with the ileostomy. I have a low K and Na all the time now form the CF. I do not want the ileostomy but sometimes to take away this pain and distention would be worth it. The only problem is that they can not guarantee any results. They have only done it on a few patients. What do you think? Deb
