My daughter has been on this diet since January 2006. For the first 2 months

she gained 4 pounds, but ever since then we have not been very successful.

She is 15 years old and weighs 21 kg. She is 136 cm tall. Heights and weight

are in proportion, but I still would like her to gain some weight. Whenever

I give her something that is not SCD legal in order to gain weight she

vomits. She also gets very mucous when she eats or drinks anything with raw

and cook SCD legal yoghurt. She gets constipated if I give her anything with

almond flour. We have increased her cold pressed organic oil intake but she

can only tolerate 1 ½ tablespoon of oil per meal. She had aspiration

pneumonia two weeks ago and had to be on antibiotic, now her constipations

is worse than ever.

We have an appointment next week with the hospital. My question is: Are

there any blood or stool tests that can be done to find out if she absorbs

the food. I don’t see any food in her stool. If you have any other

suggestions, they are very welcome.

Thanks you very much for your help.

Hi, Beate - Dede here! I'm so very new to all this, but I've read

there are tests that can be done to see if she's asorbing any

nutrients from food.

I've also been told that it can take up to two years before one's

insides get well. Sounds like she's had a tough time of it and

introducing new stuff needs to go slow and with caution.

" Caution " and " slow " are new words to my whole lifestyle ... I'm 58,

so it's an adjustment!!

You're in my thoughts.

Beate,

Antibiotics are very hard on the gut. You can use SCD yogurt and legal

probiotics to get the good bacteria back into the gut. You may need to

go back to the intro diet as well. Bananas and avocados have lots of

calories and are easy to digest. Do not give your daughter SCD illegal

foods in order to gain weight.
