Guest guest
100/82 is a good BP. The number will change from one minute to the next and if they took it in your right arm and were not pleased with the numbers, protocol would suggest taking in the left arm. Or vice a versa. Having numbers close together is not so much an issue as having number spread widely apart. That would be more idicative of cardiac trouble a widening pulse pressure or deficit. Athletic individuals tend to have lower BP numbers, and heart rates, while sedate heavier folks will have higher numbers. Stress, anxiety, pain, fear, dehydration and fluid overload can all cause ones pressure to go up. Having a naturally low pressure should not interefere with pain medication. Of course any drug that can put you to sleep, ie: pain meds, can cause the pressures to go down even further. However, all it takes is some closer monitoring of BP and proper patient assesments to insure that BP's remain stable. In the OR if a patient pressure drops too low they will firstly change the fluids/volumes prior to medicating. If you are still concerned about your pressures, then everytime you go to Walmart or CVS, or any other shop that has one of the BP machines, stick your arm in and see what happens. Try to do it once or twice a week for 3-4 weeks at about the same time each day. That would give you an excellent idea as to what your base line BP is. If your still concerned then pick up a bp monitor at the drug store and check it a couple of times a week at the same time of day each time. If they know that your baseline is 90/60 or whatever and that is normal for you, then it should not be a hinderence to receiving adequate pain coverage. I hope this helps. Oh and I tend to lean toward the leather bustierre - v- the lace, less itchy...LOL
