Guest guest
Well all has been said and done and a date has been set, I will be going in on Sept. 20th for surgery I'll be having a central pancreatectomy with an pancreaticogastrostomy and a colon resection to top things off. This is happening at IU Med center in Inpls IN by DR. . Anyone who have experience with ether of these procedures or DR. I would like to here them. (The colon resection I have been through x3) And for those who else may, I do trust in the power of prayer and ask for your prayers as I will keep you in mine. Thank you much skip
Guest guest
Skip, I will definately keep you in my thoughts. From the sound of your emails you seem like a very strong person, that alone would be enough to get you through your tough times ahead. Please know that you will have many positive thoughts and prayers from me, as well as, all the wonderful, supportive people on this site. Think of us as your cheerleaders (without the jumping, as not to disturb the pancreas)! There was a study done about the power of prayer. It found that people who had others praying for them (even if they didn't know one another or know they were being prayed for) faired better and healed quicker than those that did not have thoughts or prayers coming their way. I could never compare my struggles to your (or anyone else's) experiences, seeing as you've had colon problems in the past. I am having a Whipple at the end of Sept. I know one of the best things I can do is to remain positive, strong, determined, and remember things always work out in the end. (Also, it is okay to cry). I am faced with two opportunities, one is to live on narcotics as I have been for the last few months or have a 75% chance of having less pain after a Whipple. Believe me, I have taken months to come to the decision I felt best for me. Therefore, I am taking the path that will begin with my Whipple and lead me to a better, pain free existence. I've had my fair share of struggles, pain, anxiety, mishaps, and hopelessness. But I've always strived to adhere to the idea that things happen for a reason. Before I became ill in Dec. I focused this mantra on personal things that were rather trival, yet very important to me at that time. In the scheme of things, I didn't realize how good I had it and how very lucky I was. I took for granted the life I was leading and it was my turn time to have a reality check. I am still learning and stuggling to get over this experience. When I start to think about the reason that I've been so sick, I think about the terror, fear, humiliation, helpless, and inhumane treatment suffered by the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I often think of my students some of which live in poverty, some without parents who care for them. I look at these things that really do matter and it makes my suffering and my illness seem a little more small. I frequently remind myself I am a lot more fortunate than others. I am yet to know the " reason " and/or connection for the path I am on. I do know that my problems have forced me to look at my life a lot differently (as problems frequently do, thus I try to think of problems as opportunities). It is very tough to remain positive and mindful when we are in pain, but remember you aren't alone and we are here for you. Hang in there and I'll be thinking of you (and , Heidi, , )! > Well all has been said and done and a date has been set, I will be > going in on Sept. 20th for surgery I'll be having a central > pancreatectomy with an pancreaticogastrostomy and a colon resection > to > top things off.
