Guest guest
I had my ERCP with pancreatic sphincterotomy on August 10th. Had a bit of pain after procedure but was all better in 2-3days. It had taken away this low level pain and nausea that I had been feeling for months. I was so sure I was cured! Saturday night I woke up in alot of pain. I went to ER and ANOTHER bout of pancreatitis. Enzymes were mildly elevated Amylase normal and Lipase was 851. I refused to be admitted and was sent home with PO Dilaudid 2mg every 4 hours. That stuff is worthless to me! Never felt any difference when I took it. I went to my regular GP instead of my GI (I couldn't get an appointment) I think the pain along with the disappointment and frustration of a recurrence (I thought I was CURED!) along with this being my sixth attack since my first attack in December 2004 took its toll and I started to cry, not just cry but SOB, like I couldn't stop and couldn't catch my breath. In my mind, I need to know why all of a sudden I get " recurrent acute pancreatitis " I need an etiology. It's driving me nuts! My GP gave me scripts for oxycodone, and reglan which is a wonder drug for my nausea, along with a goodie bag of nexium, aciphex and Nevarum, sp? the orally dissolving alprazolam. I am really embarassed, but feel lots better now. Toni
Guest guest
Toni, I know how you feel! I have done the same thing at the doc's office. It is so frustrating! I felt that way after my sphincteroplasty didn't work. I fell apart in the doc's office. It was embarrassing but we need to let it out sometimes. I only give myself a pity party every now and then but we need them sometimes! I am glad you are feeling better and I hope that the attacks will let up for a while for you! Guest guest
Toni, It's totally understandable, and everyone here, including myself understand the frusteration and the fear. I hope you find answers and relief, Eileen
Guest guest
Toni, Chances are the duct collapsed again. Sometimes it can take more than one procedure to fix it..Did they place a stent in also? if they did, then it could have collapsed when the stent passed, or the stent could have blocked which is common also. It took multiple stenting and 2 sphincterotomies for mine to finally stay open. As for the Dilaudid, the tablet form doesn't do much for me either orally. When I was at Vanderbilt for a major surgery, the oncologist told me that to get the equivalent pain control from oral dilaudid tablets versus IV, I would have to take 3 times as much. Example being, I was on 4mg every 3 hours at that stage, so would have had to take 12mg orally every 3 hours to get the same relief...but I still didn't feel the relief was as good as the IV...
