Guest guest
Toni, I am sorry to hear that you had to return to the ER with another case of pancreatitis. I understand the frustration / anger / sadness of being hit with something you thought was behind you. Some of the research states that treatment may resolve the current episode of pancreatitis, but unless the cause of the problem is resolved then it may likely reoccur, i.e., what caused you to need a sphincterotomy in the first place? Did the doctors address this with you? Karyn E. , RN Executive Director, PAI Indianapolis, Indiana

Hi , I have had a biliary sphincterotomy with the first ERCP, and a pancreatic sphincterotomy with the 2nd ERCP. I was told I would that sphincterotomy was a possibility, but was never told if there was an objective finding to warrant this. The hospital this was performed in does not have the capabilities of doing Manometry to see if sphincterotomy was necessary r/t pressure and they didn't find a stricture or area of stenosis, so it is beyond my comprehension as to why it was done. I like my GI doctor, but I feel like I need to see a specialist at this point. Am I being unreasonable? I think mostly I just want an answer as to what is causing this. How many acute attacks can one have before I am having a chronic problem I wonder???? thanks for the support and the chance to vent Toni
