Guest guest
Cindy, when you have this disease, taking narcotics is something you have to get used to. Drs. are running scared from the DEA. Using a pain management physician is a way for them to cover their butts. A pain management doc specializes in prescribing various drugs and procedures for people who have severe, intractable pain. A good one can be a godsend. They can discuss different types of drug therapy and know how to titrate dosages so that you get good control of your pain. I would advise you to see one as soon as you can. Guest guest
Cindy, I just started going to a pain management doc in August. She has been wonderful! I could kiss the ground that woman's feet walks on! I was in the same dilemma as you are in. My pcp refused to write me any more pain scripts even for darvocet and my GI doc was uncomfortable writing for anything stronger the hydrocodone. I was having to go to ton, which is 2 1/2 hours away to get my scripts. My doc there told me to find a pm doc. I wish I had done it 2 years ago when my panc problems began to get worse. The first 2 years I used darvocet only and took only 1/2 of one at times because I was so scared of becoming addicted. I was so sick and hurting all of the time. I was so skinny and horrible looking. I didn't know what relief was until I started going to ton. I feel like a different person since my pain is under control. My doc just switched my pain meds again. I am using fentyl patches right now and they are wonderful, so far. I hope they continue to be. A pm doc is wonderful if you can find the right one! Where do you live? Maybe someone on here can suggest a pm doc. The one I am going to didn't even require a referral because I had a diagnosis and letter from my doc in ton. I feel truly blessed to have her because I know now I won't have to hoard my pain pills and be scared to take them for fear of running out. I know that I won't have to go to the ER everytime the pain gets worse. If I call her she works me in right away to adjust my meds. She doesn't have many panc patients with my type of panc issues but she has educated herself on it so that she can help me. I am just blown away by how wonderful she is! I hope you are feeling better and I hope you can find a good doc!
