Guest guest
My GI prescribed polyethylene glycol for my son's chronic constipation. I think it's a sugar alcohol, but I can't find out for sure when I research it. He's definitely constipated right now (hasn't pooped since Wednesday), and he's uncomforatble. He won't drink any juice, and we're only on the stage one introduction of foods. Can I try him on regular prunes, even though we're on stage one? He is currently tolerating: Chicken Turkey Carrots Zucchini Small amounts of banana That's about all we've done. Guest guest
My son has had to use polyethylene glycol (Miralax) for constipation, but since we've been on the diet and prune juice, the amount we use is 1/4 the amount we used to use. Eventually, I hope to have it off of it all together. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Guest guest
Yes, try some stewed prunes. As for liquids, try putting some in a medicine syringe and just shoot it into the back of the mouth so that he has to swallow. Liquids are very important for bowel regularity and any number of other functions. Try making some juice popsicles as well. I find pears are very helpful. Polyethylene glycol is in the alcohol family. Sometimes a child needs something illegal and you just have to do it. But you may be able to handle this on your own. There are a number of legal things you can try. mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Have you tried the constipation protocol? You can find the info at: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ Go to the " Knowledge Base " and then to 1. " Constipation " and 2. Guest guest
How should I modify the constipation protocol for a 17 month old baby? I've been able to get him to eat some stewed prunes today (just about a tablespoon full--I don't want to overwhelm his system), but he won't drink anything besides breastmilk or water. I'm not sure how I'd get him to down even a small amount of OJ/prune nectar. He drinks a good amount of water daily, nurses frequently still, and has plentiful wet diapers, so I think he's getting enough fluids. I really don't want to give him the miralax at all, though. I'd rather solve the problem with food. How much of the OJ solution should I give to a baby? Could I syringe it into his mouth? Thanks, Mother to Sailor (17 mo.) Guest guest
Hi, , Wow, I don't know how to scale things down for a baby. I hope someone with this experience will post. Since what you eat affects your child, are you doing strict SCD as well? Did you try Grace's suggestion about the cod liver oil? http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/70836 It's good that he is well-hydrated. I do think you could syringe a bit of the OJ/prune mixture into his mouth. I just can't suggest an amount. Did the tablespoon of prunes seem to have any effect? mom to -12 SCD 4/23/

Then increase it by a tablespoon each day until you are up to the full amount or until the constipation is relieved. It will work best if you start with the OJ/prune nectar combo first thing in the morning before other food. Normally it should be followed by hot liquid but since he is so young warm breastmilk may suffice. Also it is very important that all his fruits and veggies are peeled and cooked. Pureeing the carrots if you aren't already would also be helpful. Bananas need only be ripe they don't need to be cooked, Sheila, SCD Feb.2001, UC 23yrs, PCOD 22yrs mom of and
Guest guest
Hey, I am doing the strict SCD, but I am not introducing foods slowly, as I am symptom free. I'm sticking to the legal foods, have eaten nothing illegal, but perhaps I should consider taking it slow with Sailor. I will look into the CLO, and try the oj as a medicine. Sailor enjoyed the stewed prunes, but no pooping yet. We're waiting with our breath held...
